Outside Temperature thermistor - Possible Fix

Car  Black 172 FF
Anyone ever replaced there with a non renault part ? Basically renault want £40 for the part and its just a thermistor which cost about £1..

Tried a couple last night and have found one with the right resistance to get a correct temperature reading i think, what i ideally need to know / have confirmed is the resistance at the different temperatures of the original, as mines screwed so i cant use it to measure.

If someone has replaced theres which thermistor did they use ?

Typical Renault £40 for a £1 part!

Id also like to no this as my temp gauge on radio display doesnt seem to work either
so free bump

Get down the local scrapyard and see if you can find a mirror with one still intact, rip it out, shove it in your pocket.

why dont use use a thermometer pot of water and a gas burner to see if it is accurate.

Or get some ice cold water and boiling water.

Nearside mirror, you'll see a little black dimple underneath. Pop the mirror backing off and the glass out you'll see it.

Just had it outside and it seems to work fine

brrr its cold i perfered it when it read 40 degrees!

haha yeh i wondered what that little nipple was!! no i know.

Is this a common problem then? cos mines just gone mad, says its a toasty 33 degrees sometimes dropping to 28! are they easy to change if i get hold of one?

Oh aye definately feeling that one^^ i think yesterday i was up in the high 30's definately good weather were having:eek:

is it true the clio uses the outside air temp as a guide for when to start the fan? was told this buy a mate and up here mine is reading minus 28 degrees lol

i couldn't be bothered to faf around, so got hold of a new one from renualt. 10minutes work and its all working again

so with this sensor, the aircon is connected to the same sensor so could it affect aircon also?

probably, itc connected to the uch which i belive is an i2c bus and would make sense it takes external sensor @ wing mirror & internal sensor near interior light to make adjustments.

Didn't realise it was connected to the air-con! Will have to get this sorted asap. :S
It may explain a few problems I've been having with the air-con though. Just thought it was a broken sensor which I could live without for a while....oops! :o

lmfao be cooler in the Gobi desert !
Im not saying its 100% connected but an educated guess says it probably is - at least on models with climate control

I've posted the resistance vs temp curves before for that sensor.

Drop me an email if you want them
