Overheating effects starting up

  Mini Cooper S JCW

last week i broke down twice, 1 of the reasons was that my engine wouldnt start.

this happened previously before but only occured to me that it was related as the AA bloke said it was loose connections on my starter motor.

BUT this happened again on sat, and the connections are fine, BUT i noticed the engine was still very hot and the fan carried on running while the engine was off (this is normal i expect).

but it wouldnt start immediatly after..... so i came to the conclusion

when ur engine is very hot (as in, the needle on the 3/4 mark on temp guage). your engine wont start til its cooled down?

it should start anyway. maybe the heat is causing something to expand and knock off a connection? are you loosing any coolant?

iv always had a coolant leek, since i brought it, so nearly a year now. reno were meant to fix it, the previous owner spent 100+ on them to fix it, but obviously they didnt.

so would the leak affect it? PS it aint leaking alot , i still have over half the tank.

Had my old VTS fail to start once and it was roasting under the bonnet. A sensor had gone in the exhaust and it had thrown in as much petrol as it could all at once, it burned as much as it could making it hot but then it was flooded so failed to start.

probably just the starter. I cooked mine several times and it wouldnt work till the nxt morn.

Sometimes it acts up and i jiggle the connections, it doesnt like the heat.

Yeah the connections on valver starters can get a bit dodgy, give it a wee rub with emery paper to restore a decent connection, although its an awkward son of a b**ch to get to without removing the downpipe first
