Overseas Driving Cover

Slight problem. Going to be driving abroad next month because im taking my missus on a short winter break. However my insurer won't insure me abroad because im not 25.

Are or is there any companies which can insure me 3rd party temporary cover while abroad for under 25's?

I had the same problem when i was 21 (long time ago mind you!) so in the end i just winged it. (not recomended!)

norwich union temporary car insurance has an option for european cover. assuming you are over 21, reasonably clean licence, standard car worth under £30k and level 17 insurance or under.

its fully comp, first two days are £12 ish then each day after that is £5 or something. European cover is +20%

who are you with? I first took my car abraod when I was 19, Ive always been with Privilege and never had any problems! You need to get whats called a 'green card'. Your insurance company should give you that! Also get overseas breakdown cover. Its not expensive

Most policies only cover you third party anyway (few people know that but fully copy policies often only cover 3rd party abroad)

Your insurers are talking BS. Ring them and tell them they are in breach of the First EU Directive on Motor Insurance.

Simply this means any car insurance policy issued in any EU country (such as the UK) must cover you to drive in any other EU country - however, this cover is only the minimum cover required by law - so 3rd party only - not even any theft or fire cover.

Their policy may be correct in that they will only offer fully comp to over 25's whilst abroad, but they cannot stop you having TPO cover.
