Parker’s Prices

Just looked at the Parkers guide and saw that a y plate mk1 172 is £500 more expensive than a y plate mk 2 172....

It made me wonder whether is 7 years time or so, will the more limited numbers of the early 172 shape make it more sought after than the common as muck facelifted version??

Parkers guide prices are nonsense for a start. At least in Bristol anyway.

I dont think the Mk1 172 is/will be a classic to be honest. No one will ever buy them for classic value. Most buyers will be those looking for a quick car on a really low budget. A bit like the Chavs you see buying the early Impreza turbos today.

In 7 years time most buyers will be looking for the 182 as it has the highest spec and performance of all the 172 based models.

Of course you are assuming that these cars will live to be that old. From what Ive seen they will be lucky to see 2010 without disintegrating.

Where are you from in Bristol. I saw a silver 182 parked on outside the Horseshoe in Downend last week - was it you. Its a pretty rare colour = most are the blue (like mine).

No I havent been in the Horseshoe (if we are thinking of the same one) for about 18 months so it couldnt have been me. I live in East Bristol (Kingswood/Oldland) area so not far from Downend and we usually drink in and around that area. Ive never seen another 182 out on the road around my area other than the demo cars from SJ Cooks in Staple Hill. I think I saw a black 172 in the Huntsman in Blackhorse but thats about all Ive seen from a Renaultsport point of view.
