pc wont shut down

as above really...my pc wont shut down completely...it goes through the routine but freezes when it get to the final page saying windows is closing and pc is shutting down...the pc is then meant to switch of but mine wont so i have to unplug it to turn it of.....why????and can i sort this problem out

I know this won't help ypu particularly but If anyone has a solution to this I'd love to know it, I've had this with XP for nearly 2 years now and have never solved it, I've tried all sorts.

I gave up long ago and just got used to it. It just stops on the Windows is shutting down screen, but its not froze, you can move the mouse pointer. I've left it on all day before and nothing happens...

Sorry to hijack but I thought I was the only one with this prob lol

Try creating another user account (only temporarily). Log into windows using the new account and then see if it will shut down.

If it does then there's a process that's not ending properly in your normal account.

I just close all programs then turn it off at the plug.

been doing it 3 years now and nothings ever gone wrong

ok so ive created a new account and the pc now shuts down..but it wont shut down on my account......im confused as to why

My daughters laptop starts to shut down, the screen goes blank but keeps running and I have to press and hold the on button to shut it down completely. Its done it since installing SP2.

That can cause it, but also a lot of things that get downloaded using Limewire carry viri or active content that can instal viri.
