I think what this demonstrates that this is more of a online forum than a true club like the sort from classic mini/VW owners clubs i've come from.

Well said!

I'm sure the OP will find someone to do it FOC or for a small charge.

Detailing is for gays.

I'd rather be driving it than cleaning it.

Yeah because thats the smartest thing i've read on here all day lol..

You generally get the reward back from detailing wen it comes to selling or trading in, if it adds even £50 of value to your car then its been worth it.

I would of thought good offer would of been a persons time for free (inc lunch etc) but the owner would front the cost of products so say £40.

As i said it just shows the type of people on here and the contrast from when mini enthusiasts gladly gave up afternoons to come round mine to weld / help out with odd jobs on my old cars... and i in return would help them out....

I haven't got the kit nor the skills but good luck in your search.

Nail and head come tomind! doesnt matter looks like ill be buyin my own n askin someone i know off vag-H2o to show me how to do it propperly

Money aside time is a finite thing. Like Rich I'll happily help mates out with things, I get roped into fixing things on my mates old 205 and I don't charge him. There are a few members on here I would consider friends and would gladly help out FOC. However there is a difference between a friend and some randomer on the net wanting you to graft all day on their paintwork. My time outside of work is limited so anyone other than a good friend would have to cross my plam with silver to gain my assistance.

Cliosport is a huge club now with alot of members it's not the tight knit group of people who considered pretty much everyone on here a friend as it was in 2002 when I joined. Times change.

I still remember that wet Saturday in Swindon on Brazo's drive.

I gave him a crate of beer from memory. If it wasn't for a few people I've sent his way since I'd feel a cnut.

You're right about the close knit-ness, but being newskool this shouldn't make a difference, we're all members with similar interests after all. What went wrong? :(

Bigger pond, bigger veriaty of fish tbh.

Theres a lot of decent people on here tho, some more than willing to help, and others who have a dig at you because you ask people's opinions on more than 1 job or more than 1 car (personal experience). I asked about 2 jobs and got bashed for it saying i should make my mind up etc etc where as all i was looking for were a few answers, to help me make up my mind.

I dont think you can use Brazo as an example in this case. When he did your car it was a hobby. He now has invested considerable amounts of cash in products, getting a website going, various rotary's paint gauges etc and his experience has increased tenfold. There are a few people on here that detail as a business now and I wouldn't expect any one of them to offer their services for nothing just because someone on CS asks.

If you were doing this sort of thing most weekends for potentially up to £400 a job depending on the level of paint correction or service provided would you do it for £20 and a bacon sarnie? It's akin to a work colleague asking me to come in to work for the day and paying me £10, it just wont happen.

There's a handful of people on CS I know well and would happily help out FOC. Brazo being prime example, I've fitted and removed audio equipment from cars for him and don't expect him to pay me and likewise he's helped me out in the past with detailing to return the favour. I'm just saying I wouldn't extend the same to someone on the forum that I don't know personally. Seeing as there are a huge amount more members on here now it stands to reason it's not the same everyone knows everyone situation it was years back. It may seem sad but it's to be expected really, the bigger and less intimate a community gets and the more it will happen.
