Basically good components:

CPU
Motherboard
RAM
PSU

Everything else you can skimp on to an extent, or add later. I reckon you could save £100 on that cost by shopping it up yourself. Aint got time now, fking busy today but ill check out current prices.

would like a good graphics card too, something along the lines of the ATI X1800 GTO as above.

Wasnt expecting you to go and research it all mate,

I need to wait at least a month anyway till i can afford it, but cheers oz

well ive had another play around with that site, essentially the same things, but instead of the AMD processor, i went for a 3.2Ghz Intel P4.

knocked it down to £539

3.2ghz P4 is a fair bit slower than the 3500+ from AMD.

And the other system from overclockers is fine until you see the Vid card which is basically a cut down 6800 with badges on to make it seem worthy of being purchased.

ok then, but as the total price comes to 350, then if u wanted you could get 2 nvidia cards in SLI, but then u will be bottle necking ur pc.

need to have a good look at various places really, i just noticed this site, and id actually seen a fairly top spec one for about £350 without a monitor, but then i started adding extras on, and it soon doubled the price lol

Completely depends on the task. The P4 (Prescott) destroys the 3500+ Venice at Video encoding for example.
And, it's quicker in a few other tasks too.. so "a fair bit slower" isn't 100% the case. ;)

The 3.2 does beat it in video encoding but thats cause of the HT really. Audio encoding which i do more of the amd is better and also gaming its better but meh i went with dual core anyways as i needed it for work i was doing.
