PDA Sat Nav

  S2000
Some of you might have seen my post about sat nav units the other day where I went with a tomtom one. That, however, was for my old mans christmas present and I now really want to get one myself. I'm thinking of just getting a PDA with tomtom installed as the best option for a cheap setup, cheap being the main priority, lol.

After a quick look on ebay it seems the acer N30 could be a good idea and then get a gps reciever. Anyone else got any decent suggestion on either where (any forums?) or what to get?

Thanks.

theres a few pda sat nav sites out there (shop wise) your best off emailing them though and seeing if they`ll do u a special price. As for wich pda , what are u wanting it to do , also some mobile fones etc will take tom tom. so if yer due for a upgrade thats usually a cheaper option

thing is though that I really need to do it on as much of a budget as possible. From looking around it seems the best way to get one that operates reasonably well as cheap as possible would be to go with the PDA option as I can get one with a GPS receiver for about £80 I think.

Is it possible to get sat nav on a PSP? I remember hearing about it ages ago but don't know if anything came of it and a quick google search didn't really show up much.

Depending on the PDA OS there is a range of programs to run on them. From Route 66 to TomTom... however like i said depending on the version of OS it will mean v5 of tomtom or v6. I know sites where you can get them for free as long as your card is big enough, also got the latest cameras and maps.

also, could someone please help me with which of the PDAs (N30 or X5) would be best as I'm watching a couple on ebay which end soon and am not sure which to go for, so really need some advice asap.

Thank.s

Any chance you could PM me some of these sites?

I've got a HP iPAQ RX3715 with a seperate bluetooth GPS device, and i downloaded a certain version of TomTom ;)

However, it always randomly crashes! As you can imagine, when you're trying to navigate somewhere and you cannot pull over, and TomTom decides it'd be a good idea to crash, it really drives you nuts.

Basically all that happens is, the application just dissapears in a split second and i'm returned to the 'home screen'.

One thing i did notice is, when this happens, if you try and fire it back up, as soon as it realises where you are again, it crashes again, so, it seems that it's just certain areas on a map that it doesn't like. If i drive for a few minutes and try again, the application then works. Bizarre i know.

Tried downloading a fresh copy in case the map was corrupt, but made no difference. Also the map is quite outdated.

If there's a new version that would work with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA i'd really like to hear about that!

As for recommendations, i've never used any of those PDA's, but i bought the iPAQ thinking the same as you, as it's much cheaper than buying an actual tomtom device. I'm not sure whether it's my PDA that's the problem, or whether TomTom is quite buggy, so i'd love to hear how you get on with it if you choose to get a PDA. Mine has a fairly decent spec and plenty of memory, so can't see what the problem is..

Good luck!
