peeling anthracite alloys

  Clio 182
I've got a 182 which I bought about a year ago with anthracite alloys . In the last few months the anthracite stuff has started to come of in places and its not due to curbing as its even on the inside of the spokes.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A friend told me that it could be due to the car wash I take it to as they spray some stuff on your alloys that make it easy to clean but is not to kind to the paint. I stopped going there a while ago.

Any solutions to get my alloys back to how they use to be?

I actually bought some spray paint from Halfords. Its for a Rover but was recomended on here as a good match. Anyone got any experience spraying small sections of their alloys?

If you want it to look good. You'll need to prime, sand, prime, sand, etc until it is smooth then paint then lacquer. You'll probably need to lacquer the whole wheel.

I did mine. Takes time and the finish is very soft i.e. easily scratched. But much cheaper.

I think I'll just wait a while and get a refurb. I heard it cost about £80 an alloy. Not cheap but there starting to look quite bad and I don't think I'll get the same finish doing it myself.

Thanks for the replies.

I am well pissed off with my cup alloys. they are really light in the sun and the centre caps are a diff colour to the rest of the wheel. is this normal?
