Peice of plastic on roof of car?

Does anybody know the purpose of the small strip of plastic at the top of the windscreen just before the sunroof on the 1.2?

Not always Rich, my old 02 172 had x3 windscreens in its 3 yrs i had it, when autoglass replaced the screens the replacement ones come with the sunroof deflector lip. i would have to wait for one to be ordered if i wanted the sport surround not good when theres half a house brick in the screen lol
