People with 182 manifold on 172s...

Hi, anyway I'm selling my 182 manifold which was going to go on my old 172. Someone asked me to review it before buying, however as I never fitted it I couldn't answer.

Who was fitted a 182 manifold on their 172 and what differences did you find? Good or bad? Any comments appreciated.

Felt stronger mid range on mine (mapped to suit) - also slightly different engine note. Worth it imo and big help on the cat front

Pain in the arse to fit... I wouldn't use the word gain, more different in the way of power delivery!

All the cars with 182 manifolds I've driven just don't seem to pull aswell after 5000rpm compared to the 172 item?!
 
the 4-1 mani on the 172's provides high RPM go, the 182 4-2-1 gives the lower end go, there is a difference , but not really a gain, just as Gray says a different type of torque curve.

I believe the 182 manifold is good on a moderately tuned engine, but for a high power build the 172 one is the way forward.

This is Probably a silly question.... If I was to fit the 182 Manifold (I just got hold of one for £20 :D) and fitted it to the cup with the KTec Sports Cat (For MOT), will it make the Cat easier to access to swap on and off a decat pipe?

Yes definitely. Changing cats with a 172 manifold is a b1tch, but it's easy with a 182 mani.

It is possible to bodge up an MOT cat from the old 172 downpipe/catpipe (same thing)
