Petrol Gauge Vs Trip Computer

  182 FF
Hi, i know this has been covered before but i was wondering if anyone knew a quick fix for this annoying issue. Basically the pertol gauge reads 1 cube and the trip says no juice. I have had this before but it seemed to sort it self out. No its back and its very annoying.

Is there any secret trip menu that can be accessed?

ahhhhhhh

Stop lying to me car.

Resetting diagnostic! Do you mean the old trip computer or is there another master reset somewhere?

Ta vix

Hold down the trip computer button on the end of the wiper stalk, the dials will start dancing and pinging. press the button again in it will show the fuel used. Press the reset button by the dials and it will re-set the fuel reading.

Make sense? lol

I thought that you had to:
Put keys in ignition
hold button on the end of the stalk
switch the key to the point just before it starts the engine
Then they start dancing about? Didn't know you could just hold the end of the wiper stalk. Or is that just your crud explaining ;)

Just tried it, whacked in the key, held down the button and then turned the key. Bang it all went crazy, lights all came on and then all the needles went round at different increments. Started the car and then the petrol gauge appeared to move. And oddly the car seemed even quicker. DO you have to leave it for a certain amount of time before you start the car while its going mad? I just started the car after about 2 mins.

Its ment to do that. went mad and started beeping at you/needles moving yeh? When it does that, press the button at the end of the stalk and it will cycle through different things that you dont normally see each time you press it... you will get to a screen that eventually says ---- (which is what its ment to say) or it wil say something like -adb- or b-cd- (some form of letter anyway)... If there is any letters (no matter what they are) press the milage reset button whilst on this screen. It should then reset the numbers to ----. The numbers are stored fault codes.

What i'd also like to now is what do i trust, is it the guage or the trip computers "miles till empty"
At the moment i have just about a a 1/4 of a tank acording to the gauge and the miles till empty says i have 135 miles till empty. Sound right or one telling me a little porky?

Missvavavoom is not doing it wrong! Lol. Ijust wanted to know if it needed to do a full cycle like a memory test on a pc motherboard.

So this issue has continued to the point where i have taken the car to renault. They have ran test upon test and its passed all of them. But how is my petrol still dissapearing this fast. £20 which come up as half a tank is shooting down I usually get 140 miles for £20. What else can i do when the professionals say its all good but i know its being shonky!

Are you saying that when the tank is nearly empty, the predicted miles till empty disappears?

No, I whack in £20 worth and then reset all tne gauges and the needle just thunders down the gauge. For instance i put in £20 yesterday and now the needle is just of the one chunk mark. (chunks = petrol levels)

Whats your cars MPG - Will tell you on one of the trip functions. If its passed all the test could be how many miles your doing, are your tyres inflated as required by renault. They are thirsty cars.

Yeah i can get about 37mpg to sometimes a whopping 42mpg. Renault have just told me now to fill her up all the way and see what happens. They confirmed they had checked the Lambda sensor.
