Ph.1 172 - my first drive

Me likey! :D

Just had a brief drive in StevieGreenstuff's 172 and I must say, it's a significant change from my 182.

The whole package feels a lot more 'raw' and much more willing to tell you what its doing and what is happening to those wheels up front. The 182 does that also, but it feels a tad removed - almost like Reno have refined these small bits of feedback out of the equation.

If I could afford to have both, I would definitely have a personal preference for the 172 for track-work. It feels more alert and in the right hands would probably be a potent weapon on circuit.

A big thumbs-up to Steve for letting me have a test-drive - and yep, your brakes are MUCH better than mine! ;)

I think alot of it is to do with the wheels. The ph 1 have 15's, and the oz F1's are pretty light compared to the 16" lardy 182 alloys.

How much do the F1s weigh, I vaugely remember reading 8-9 kilos each which was about the same as a 16inch Turini.

possibly. As a rule the 182 rims are another 2kg or so more per corner than turinis!

random. i went to go look at a ph2 with mate form work to buy last night. had a go in it and theres a lot of diff in the feel of the ph2 to my phase 1.
phase 2 gearchange felt a lot lighter than my ph1 - not as much feel to it.
and the acceleration a lot less involving - maybe cos im used to IK and exhaust noise?

was surprised tho, felt a totally diff car - not QUITE as much fun (not sayin its boring - far from it!) - but maybe just cos im used to my little mods.
