Ph1 172 - Cheap (ish) Track Toy Project

Picked the car up from Paul (Harpham) last Saturday and got a fair bit planned for it.

Few pictures of it as it stands now, on 66k miles:

First mod was an OMP wheel to replace the shagged standard one:

So much better!

I did make the long drive to Gloucester to buy an Imola bucket seat, had a play with it last night and realised I hadn't even checked the size, and I'm a touch too fat for it so bit of a stupid error there so will have to pass that onto the next guy!


Future plans:

New rear brakes (bought from Wests Renault)
New throttle cable (bought from Wests Renault)
New gearbox mount (came with the car)
New front brakes (Brembo discs bought from G172, pads to follow when I decide)
New tyres - unsure what to go for yet
Suspension - saving for FK's or some second hand ones that are decent
Bucket seat that I can fit into!
Bit of stripping and a fake floor carpeted
Maybe HID's
Then plenty of track abuse!

Obviously repair as I go and maybe spend a few quid here and there but the idea is cheap fun.

Total spend so far including parts bought comes to around £1800.

Forgot how much I missed my old 182, had a DC2, R26 and 330ci in between and non of those are a patch on the clio's in terms of fun!

thats about the going rate for a reasonable one...in fact honestly 1,800 would get you a rather sorted VTS lol.

Will be staying road legal, not going full on racing spec.

The above price includes the car, bucket seat, steering wheel, new brakes, throttle cable etc.
I've not got it to be as cheap as possible, but if I can have it sorted for as close to £2k as possible then it'll do me. I've got it for enjoyment, so if it costs me £3k so be it.

After the drive home with the new wheel, a million times better! closer to me, steering feels nicer and a lot better to hold.

Got my subframe through today so fitted my Imola after work.

Bit of a trial fit as I want to fit some better bolts and neaten it all up but it fits and works and feels awesome!
Not as tight as I first thought so might be keeping it.

Seat will be up for sale over the weekend.
Done a bit more driving today and not sure I can get on with it.

New rear discs and pads, and front discs have arrived so thats the weekend sorted. Next up is new front pads and tyres, then track days will be booked.

Bit more work on the car today, replaced the rear brakes with some new discs and pads from Tom at Wests Renault.
Ones on the car were absolutely fucked! And the bearings were rumbling a bit.

Then took it to Sainsburys finest jet wash and gave it a quick whip over:

Next jobs to do -

New front discs and pads - got the discs
Brake bleed
Fit new throttle cable
Fit gearbox mount
New tyres + DIY wheel refurb
Soem coil overs when they come up second hand
Maybe sell the Imola seat and buy a slightly bigger one

Then it should be ready for the first track day I'll be taking it to!

As good as I remember my 182 being.

The keen eyed might notice the drivers wing mirror smashed off and cling filmed too, was like that first thing this morning
Screwed it back on solid so just need a mirror cap and new piece of glass.
