Ph1 172 on TB's

  Honda & VW
Looking at one one pistonhead and do like it but just a bit wary as to how much strain the extra power will be having on the gearbox etc.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

thanks

Lee

wouldnt be any danger to the box unless its been abused already, the box should be able to cope, tbs dont give massive hp increases

id keep ur teg

Well is it, 200Bhp- 215BHP or 230BHP?

Our car has been find on a rebuilt gearbox at 200BHP, Our car only gets driven on track so its hammered very time its out. I did blow the diff though :( oops.

I personally think unless you know the exact history of the build and the car, then its not worth bothering with.

You could end up buying someone elses trouble!

Ben Spent 000's repairing other peoples f**k ups.

should be ok on standard box as the extra power is linear unlike a turbo so the extra stress isnt as severe.

BUT

as daniel says, unless you know the history you could buy something thats been done badly and piss oil everywhere constantly like a certain itb'd car

box life is all down to how it's driven. Dump the clutch everywhere on super sticky tyres and you'll break it with standard power.

Well the one i was looking at on pistonheads says "having a new engine put in at the moment(old one suffered a oil Pump failure"

rebuilt with 83mm 12.6:1 compression Forged pistons,
ACL bearings,
ARP 2000 big end bolts,
Cat Cam 421's,
Omex 600 ecu

Doesn't mention service history in the advert.

oh and Tobs - the teg went back in March just haven't changed my avatar etc

421s were in the boot last time i saw it. used to be a standard engine with cams, large single TB and an Omex ecu. It dropped a valve head 2 years after it was put together.

i wasn't sure if you meant this thread or the advert, so i thought i should take the piss to make sure:D

an a side note, oil pump faliure leading to a new engine? might be worth checking that oil pressure gauge too?

thats odd.

i've ended up with this advert open on two windows, one with this.

Engine
rebuilt with 83mm 12.6:1 compression Forged pistons,
ACL bearings,

and one with this.

Engine
45mm Throttle bodies
rebuilt with 83mm 12.6:1 compression Forged pistons,
ACL bearings

as above, i'd stay away!
