Ph1 172 Track Car

  E46 M3 & Ph1 172
Hi guys,

Not posted a thread yet so here it goes.

Myself and @Micromarc recently acquired a Ph1 172 track car. Bought it from mu uncle who has had it in storage for over 5 years. Its half way track prepared and we got it cheap. The reason we have bought the car is to save our own cars from having to spend fortunes and risking them (I have an E46 M3, Marc has a well sorted Mk4 Golf V6 4mo)

Few pics of how we purchased it -

The spec when purchased:-
K&N Typhoon Intake
Jetex Cat Back Exhaust System with Twin Tail pipe
Apex Lowering Springs
Grooved Pagid Brake Discs
EBC Yellow Stuff Braje Pads
Whiteline Rear ARB
Budget Bucket Seats & Harnesses
Half Custom Cage (Made for a Fiesta, modified to fit the Clio)
Bonnet Pins
Bumper Pins
Blue Sunstrip
Bumpstrips painted blue
Blue OZ Superturismo alloy wheels.

The car came with some extras also - including H&R rear coil overs brand new, V6 spoiler, and a solid engine mount (only 1). Also came with a set of OZ F1 Cups with mismatching tyres.

To get the car running, it required a new fuel pump, new relays, and to be on the safe side we put on a new coil pack, new spark plugs, new leads & a new TDC sensor. Once we were happy the car was running fine, we took it for an MOT. Some pics below with the V6 spoiler fitted, number plates, and also fog lights removed and fitted with blanks from a pov spec. Also my M3 lurking in the background outside Marc's house.

Then came a little bit of a change. We weren't keen on the blue additions to the exterior, although we did like the saltire wing mirrors. But we changed all the blue parts and painted them Peugeot Graphite Grey. We also removed the blue suns trip and fitted a slightly longer one and in grey. We also took the good Parada Spec 2 tyres off the Superturisoms, put them onto the F1 cups and fitted those to the car. We also fitted some RS decals to the bottom section of the rear quarters. Much better look to the car. Can also see some pics of Marcs Mk4 in the background too.

And a few from the other weekend outside mine with the M3. Dodgy parking due to moving 5m lengths of wood from the garage to the back garden.

Whats to come?? Quite a lot.

We bought some H&R front coilovers, with one leaking. These will be sent away and rebuilt over winter, fitted early next year.

We've purchased some 3" 4-Point harnesses (Takata), and also some Cobra Suzuka seats. No pics of harnesses as of yet.

We also recently bought a K-Tec stealth back box. We'll remove the full system we have, fit a 182 manifold and run a straight 2" pipe with no silencers from manifold to the back box.

Also awaiting the delivery of a modified Scenic shifter to 1) extend gear stick position and 2) shorten gear throw.

Others to come - bonnet pins changed to aerocatches, same with the bumper pins. Will most likely purchase a spare front bumper to carry this out.
Remove the cage and fit a proper Safety Devices one. Will be getting involved in one of the group buys very soon to have it fitted early next year. Will maybe powder coat the cage Laguna Seca Blue (same colour as the M3) but we'll probably change our mind a few times before we go to fit it lol.

Cheers guys.

Thanks guys.

The old cage is ok, looks good but dare say functionality isn't the best. Will be for sale with the front legs to make it a full cage once we have the Safety Devices one purchased.

I'm from Falkirk, Central Scotland, but spend most of my week in York with work. @Micromarc is from Bathgate. He uses the Clio much more frequent that I do.

No problem @run_pug I'll be in touch mate.

Hi @Jonesyuk - good to see you on here mate.

@Chi it was considered mate, but the car has just this week had a full fluid service and would be track ready, but it seems one of the shocks is knocking on the rear, and will need to change the brake fluid as last time on track my cousin believes he may have boiled it. One of the bleed nipples is damaged on the calipers so would need to do all this first before tracking it. Plenty time to enjoy later, the H&R's setup correctly with the right front top mounts, camber adjustment and setup :)

  Whichever has fuel
That car just doesn't sit right imo. The passenger front wheel sits in a completely different position to the drivers front. Have you had any alignment done yet?

Dunno how you can tell that without having two pictures exactly the same angle from both sides of the car @Daniel but no, we've done zero alignment of yet as we plan to fit coilover, top mounts, front wheel spacers and rear axle spacer before hand. One of our friends said the car did look like it was crabbing along the road a bit, but it feels ok to drive. For the amount of use it gets, it won't be an issue really until we go to track it. So it will be looked at eventually :)

Thanks @Tullyvernon
