PH1 172 wont start...

My ph1 172 has developed a starting issue.

When I put the key in turn it on, everything lights up as it should, immobiliser light goes out as it should, turn it to start and nothing happens, not even a click like you get with a flat battery or dodgy earth.

I've confirmed the battery is good, Earth strap is good. I'm going to get it into work to get it on a ramp and ill check the wiring to and remove and test the starter if required but just looking for any other suggestions while I have it there before I go down a rabbit hole!

Oddly enough one time since it started faulting, I turned the key and it jumped straight into life, let it ran for a few minutes, turned it off and tried again, same fault!

You checked all the relays under the bonnet?

I should have said that actually good point, Ive swapped all the relays from my van and confirmed they are all ok, as are all the fuses. Checked the usual culprit, the big white connector too, good as new!

I know you said you aren’t getting a click, have you gave the starter a wallop just incase that is entirely humped?

not yet, car is buried in the garage and the starter is buried in the engine bay lol

If it bumps starts then I bet it's the exciter
