Ph1 Hissing PAS

Just one that's happened tonight on my 1.4 ph1:

Was completely fine on one journey, on the return my steering felt a lot heavier than usual, not desperately to the point of not being able to turn the wheel, but it felt more uncomfortable, I'm putting it down to the fact I stupidly red-lined first gear on the way back (Shame on me? :nono

Anyway, had my brother take a look who's got basic mechanical skills (very basic) and showed me a black pump-type-looking-whatchamacallit below the engine, and it was hissing every time I turned the wheel, more so on full lock.

Any ideas on the problem? and how much I'm looking at to fix it?

Is there ps fluid in the bottle?

Sounds like low pas fluid level. Top up and keep an eye on the level and check for leaks.

Fluid is on max level, but can't be sure the last time it was changed.
