Ph2 172 Clio Buyers Guide

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
Hello all,

I notice you have a DCi buyers guide, is there one for a phase 2 Clio 172?

After weighing up the competition I'm going to be purchasing a used one before the year is out.

If there isn't a buyers guide, why not use this thread to put your input in to? What should I look out for? What are the weak points? Things to consider? How to spot an import? Different facelifts within the range and what years / regs these came in etc.. Factory recalls? Faulty parts?

I think you get the idea...

Cheers,

Make sure you check the following things -

How solid is the ride? Do the engine mountings feel like they have loosened from lots of hard driving...

Are there lots of rattles coming from inside the car? Make sure you drive it over some rougher roads.

Check all the electrics are working, auto lights, wipers, esp. Check everything, even the interior lights as small things can cost alot to fix.

Check the state of the brakes, will they need replacing soon?

Check the exhaust backbox and centre section. How does the car sound? If it sounds dry and life less the exhaust may be on the way out.

Check how the car runs from cold. Is it responsive?

Check what type of fuel the previous owner used. Should be super unleaded.

Check the tyres. What type are they? Check for uneven wear on the tread.

How does the steering feel? Check for any unecessary torque steer which could indicate some damage...

Errr. Check the xenons are good...

Check the bodywork and the wheels for scratches. Check the spare wheel.

Check the seats move and lock into position correctly.

I've got a 2004 172, quite a rare one. If you can get a very late one you'll have the luxury of cruise control. This is really cool.

You'll love the car if you look after it and give it the right treatment and maintainance when it needs it.
