Ph2 172 rear arch question.

  Sport 172
Hi,

Just wondering if it's possible to trim down the inside of the rear arches with them being plastic.

My alloys rub when I get a few people in. Was looking at the arch and there is like a lip on the inside. Was just wondering if I could trim that down a little to stop the wheels from rubbing.

Or if anyone knows of anyone that has done it.

thanks

They're not plastic on the back

Sounds like the alloys don't fit properly sop i'm guessing they're not standard?

Loads of people on here have coilovers fitted and there cars really low at the back with no rubbing at all

What wheel are they and size?

205 40 R17 and lowered 30mm.

Because the car had rubbish tyres on in the alloy wheel package the tyre wasn't the tyre wasn't fully stretched across the alloy. Now I have put some better quality tyres on the tyre is covering the wheel a lot more and so rubbing slightly on the inside of the arch. Just need to trim them down a little to stop the rubbing. It's not bad rubbing hence why I would just like to trim it a bit. I thought they were plastic, they feel like it.

205/40 tyres are the normal for 17's

What size tyres were on before, i'dd be amazed if they were a different size?

What wheels are they, i'm guessing not renault wheels

My guess without seeing the car is that the wheels fitted are offset ET37 (common on alot of clios) 172's are ET43, the 6mm difference will rub on a lowered car as the inside of the tyre will catch the arch. This isn't a problem with the arch its just most wheel suppliers presume all clios are offset ET37 ish which they aren't.

Put a picture up of the car with the wheel fitted

trimming the inside will leave a sharp edge and distroy your tyres , u need to get them pulled out a bit by the sounds of it

i think he means the liners? as the lower the number, the more they stick in i think

my standard 172 and 182 wheels both rub the rear arches

When I took the car to get new tyres the guy pointed out because they were an alloy package deal they were crappy tyres and because of that they had started to egg when the tyres meets the alloy.

Hard to explain but because the tyre was rubbish and they started to egg the tyre was pulling away from the rim, well stretching and more towards the middle of the alloy so away from the edge of the arch.

Will put a piccie up on the weekend.

They are MB Italia alloys.

Not sure what tyres were on. The guy told me they were a crappy budget set.

What offset are the wheels?

It will say on the inside of each of the wheels

It'll be written as ET.. then a number either thirty something or forty something

Standard 172 ph2 offset is et48.5 so if he has got some thing like et37 thats over 10mm difference defos gonna catch somewhere imo
