Phase 1 vs Phase 2 172 - Which Do You Prefer?

  '03 172 Iceberg S
Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask questions on the 172, please can someone direct me to the best place if so (there doesn't seem to be a dedicated 172 forum which surprises me) - thanks.

I'm looking to replace my '96 Alfa 145 Cloverleaf and I've had a look at a few early 172 Clio's. My budget at present will allow me to get a phase 1 or a phase 2 at a stretch however I personally think I actually prefer the phase 1 since it doesn't look as bulbus and I think it has better alloys. I am still investigating the differences and history of the car but am wondering which do you prefer?

Also the phase 1 seems to have the dark blue leather interior which I'm not that keen on (its the colour I don't like). From what I can tell in some photos on ebay/autotrader it looks like the Phase 2 172's have a black leather interior, is this the case or my eyes playing tricks?

Thanks, hopefully this forum will be a usefull resource in future.

Right next to the sarcasm button. It seems you found that on your own ;)

There are more opinions already expressed on this subject than you can shake a stick at. Use the search.

Oh and welcome to the forum ;)

difference is that the Ph2 has black half leather and the Ph1 does indeed have the crappy dark blue half leather and worse looking dash... although externally they look a lot more agressive and not like a 1.2 which is good.

Ph1 is lighter and also runs a cable throttle, not the fly by wire too. Other than that I cant think of any other real differences. It's down to what is easier to live with looks wise, I've never liked the Ph2 due to the wheels and front end

As above...personal preference really, probably b**ger all in it performance wise.

I do prefer the MK2 myself hence why I brought one and not the Mk1

Thank for all your replies, you've been most helpfull.
Wish I could hand pick parts of the ph1 and ph2 and make my ideal car:
- Ph1 front end.
- Ph2 black leather seats.
- Cup alloys.
Has anyone got a photo (or link) of a ph1 with turini alloys?
IGNORE THAT JUST FOUND ONE: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=259050&highlight=ph1+ph2

i think the full definiton is fly by wire actually ;)
not for the purists but you wont get traction control without it !
Never liked the ph1's tbh but i would say that being a ph2 owner, depends if you want a bit more of a go kart or a few more toys tbh - each has their own merits.

Phase 2 looks and body sheel

Phase 1 for everything esle.

O bar the toys the 2 has but they can be a more trouble than there worth.

If you don't like the colour of the seats in the Ph1 172, then maybe you should hunt out a 172 Exclusive. ;)
