It may be a case of all the gear, no idea?
unless you are already a very good and experienced photographer, i don't see the point in spending £2k on kit. You could quite easily spend 1/2 that and take equally good photos.

If you want to spend £2K. I would say the D300 or as Cletu said the 5d. Are you Canon or Nikon at the moment? Do you have lenses you want to keep?
The Nikon lens above is one of the sharpest money can buy, just see Ukaesw Motorsport piccys.

There stuff is AMAZING. Handle both and see what you think IMO
what about a 30D, you can pick them up relatively cheap these days, leaving you a fair bit left for lens, flashguns, tripods etc

Great links!!!
I did have canon, I have no lenses left but my Dad does have a 350d with the kit lense so it would be nice to lend him lenses but not essential.
Which nikon lense were you refering too?
^^some great photos there!
I'm just reading the link about the 18-200 af-s. Sounds like a good lense.
Do you think 200mm would be too short for track work? Would it best to aim for that lense and an extender? My previous lense was 300mm and seemed about right to me.
I've spent £1200 so far, so if I can keep that...
Nikon D50 (£300)
Sigma 10-20 (£300)
Nikon 50mm 1.8 (£100)
Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-S (£500)
and with my £800 left...
Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX (£400)
Nikon TC-20E II Converter (£280)
£120 worth of filters.
I wouldn't change my 80-200 for the world. I would put lens / body priority at about 90% lens, 10% body, all DSLRs are good enough with regards to autofocus, metering etc now, so a good lens is waaaay more important. They also last a lifetime, unlike a body which will struggle past 120k shutter actuations.
