Hopefully see you around then Ted, I've seen a LY 200 twicw on the A120 heading towards colchester a few times. Colchester dealer had a gloss white cup as a demo I think but have't managed a test drive.

Dazza1. If you read the manual it should say about not revving it too high or giving it too much throttle for 600miles. Then you can give it a bit more throttle but still not rev it high until almost 1000miles. after that you can dirve it as you please but then engine will still be tight and not giving full performance till 5-10k miles

What the Handbook says is that you should not Revv it above 3,5k RPM or 130 km/h in the highest Gear for 1000km and then you can do as you will.

What means to me that it got not more than 6k Revvs in the first 600 miles (1000km) and not more then 130 kph.

Modern cars don't require running in. There's evidence that suggests running in gently loses you power. I ragged my 172 and 182cup from day one, never had any problems.

Rag it from day one and it'll be a quick one is the general concensus.

The dealer told me to not go over 80mph for 600 miles, i gave it a bit of stick last night dont think it will harm it i didnt run in my 182

cant belive how tight it is, its like breaking in a virgin;)

  LY 200
The one i test drive was only on 25 miles but the salesman (before i did) gave it loads of stick......I did ask him whether they needed to be run in for the '600' when he was having his go and he replied 'no buddy these modern engines are capable from day one'! lol

I have a GT, i've currently done 800 miles, the engine is just starting to feel as if its broke in, however, i have my renault drivers booklet here and it does say

"Running in Petrol Version"

For the first 600 miles, do not exceed 78 mph in the highest gear, or 3000-3500 rpm.
You may only expect top performance from your vehicle after approximately 1,800 miles.

Your own choice at the end of the day, im taking it easy with mine until 1000 miles.

Same here.Foot to the boards in my 172 and 182 from new.

as said it seems to be the ones that were given death from day one open up and become the "special" or "fast ones" people talk of.

it's a little more than a coincidence. have you ever seen a thread here saying "I didn't run mine in according to the hand book and it's fubared it's internals all over my drive way"? :)

I've just got back from renault ... while i was there i asked about breaking in engines and i was told, drive it how you want. ...

No have i b****cks, been delayed 6 weeks its now due on the 20th. They didnt ring me to let me know either.

My 1.2 will do 70 in 3rd , does 75 at the red line i think. Peak power is ment to be at 6750rpm on the GT, next time your in 2nd gear, rev it to that and see what the speed is.

Hey Ted,

It's a new motor what you expect.

Guess it's another rawness compared to the 182.
She'll loosen' up for sure!

Why don't you just find out for yourself when you get the car?

I've never had a brand new car but if I get one i will only bother running it in if the dealer explains it needs and its for a good reason... or if there is a very early 1st service (maybe 1000 miles), in which case i would run it in til then, then after that give it hell!!

I would suggest that if ever need warranty work on it you say you did run it in tho, just in case!

  LY 200
I think id be thinking i got drawn the short straw if i ended up being cliotoby's car! ;) lol

  200
I took it easy on the breaks for 500 miles, thats what they recon you should do, the whole running in thing is rubbish now, thats what 3 years warranty is for :)

  Clio 200 Cup
Hey my new 200 Cup was bought from Ipswich (it was the black one in the window for the last 2 months), doing the running in thing to.

The general advice I'm following is not to put the engine under heavy load, no sustained high revs (past 3.5k) occasional shorts blips to higher revs and plenty of variety.

After the drive down to Lyon in France next Tuesday it'll be closer to run in :)

  GTD, Lupo
When i first picked my 200 up about 4 months ago i called Renault and asked about the run in period. They told me the engine would have already been run in on a test bed (about 1k miles) and its a missunderstanding saying the engine needs running in as it is the gearbox and brakes :D that need BEDDING in.

Enjoy the cars guys :D mine came alive at around 2k miles, you will notice as the exhaust note will totally change and it will lose that sluggish feeling.
