Picture editing

Can anyone recommend me some software that will allow me to green screen/chroma key, allowing me to remove the background from images or completely change the colour of the background?

I take picture of things I'm selling, but I'd like to be able to make the background either perfect white or black, like stock photos.

You can fcuk about in Photoshop for hours cutting stuff out of images with layers and such.. orrrrr just take a photo on a large white piece of paper ?!

Green-screen or chroma key rarely works well in these circumstances and you may end up wasting so much time editing your images. I would invest that time in building a little (maybe portable?) shooting 'studio' - as above, starting with a big roll of white paper and maybe some small lamps with diffusers.
