Plastic Piece on Rear Hatch - 182 Cup

Hi

I'm wondering what this piece does. With the hatch closed slide your finger (just to the right of the number plate light in the rear bumper) between the bumper and the hatch. On mine there is a small plastic piece inserted into one of the 4 holes on the bottom of the hatch. There isn't anything in the other 3 holes. If you open the hatch you can see the piece of course.

And since this is my first post, I wanted to say thanks to all the people who have contributed to the site in the past. I have been able to find lots of answers to other questions already.

I think I know the bit you mean. Do you mean those little black plastic bits which, when the boot is open can be seen inserted into the holes along the bottom edge of the boot lid? I've often wondered why not all the holes have them and thought I'd lost one.

Welcome to ClioSport.

Ain't they drainer caps for water from the lock on the rear?

Welcome to CS too :D

Gazcaddy, Lee, EvilJohn, Rich, Tyson182 and l!ckeldev!l2_k1 - Thanks for the welcome and the interest in my question.

Yes that is the black plastic piece in l!ckeldev!l2_k's picture - upper right (Thanks for posting the picture).

If anyone should know for sure what it does (I only have one, as shown in the picture, too) I'd be happy to hear, otherwise I'll run with the drainer cap explanation although I'd love to know how it works and why there is only one.

It's probably a location hole used in manufacturing. Perhaps a hole for a robot gripper which picks up the tailgate. They seem close together mind you. but it's not unusual.

Dont forget that cars are built by robots and machinary. Almost all parts have location holes that robots use to align things.

Its a manufacturing aid of some kind and/or a breather hole for an otherwise sealed enclosure.

The hole's are for the boot door to drain and breath if any moisture should get in. If you look on the botton of the doors the some holes are the also.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Rich, I'm feeling better about only having one plastic "thingy" (technical term) as well.

I think the all clios come with only one in. There's four holes dotted underneath the boot lid and I think only one has the clip in there.

My first thought was a drainer for the lock as sometimes they do get waterlogged
( British weather for you lol ;) )
But as mini ripper has pointed out, could be breathers too. :D
