Plug-in Antenna or re radiating one

  Ford Fiesta

does any one have either of these, so they can tell me the difference, I think for the new road angel the only one offered is the £20 one, will I be able to keep the RA2 at the bottom centre of the windscreen run the wire down the back of the screen, down under the carpet and up to the rear window shelf area?

I have a re radiating antenna for both my Mk1 Road Angel and my Garmin Sat Nav.

A plug in Antenna does exactly what it says. You plug directly in the back of the RA.

A Re radiating antenna will allow you to position the antenna on the roof and the other part inside the car. Mine has a 2m distance.

As far as I am aware a re radiating antenna will need to be external as well as internal. I.e 2 parts to it. When I rang up about the RA antenna I was told it had to be external.

well tumbleweed on this forum has the £20 one and thats on a wire that he has mounted near the rear window on the drivers side run the wire to the dash and plugged it into the road angel 2, gets reception now, and thats not the re radiating one., and its on the inside of the car, I dont want an aerial on the outside you see.

So as far as I know the plug in antenna is on a lead too, thats why I cant see what the difference is between them, but I am going to phone blackspot tomorrow to find out. On the site the only extra aerial for sale is the normal £20 one for RA2.

phoned blackspot, they said the re radiating antenna is for the old road angel, and for the new one it is a normal antenna for £20.

They said it isnt advised to mount vertically next to the rear window as cant garentee reception, but tumbleweed did and he gets reception, so I am too, dont want it on the roof.

anyway ordered the aerial and asked when I will be able to download updates as at the moment get, "error locating device details, please contact blackspot", told me to try later today.

so anyone buying or got a RA2 you only need a £20 aerial available from blackspot.com

Hi Liam

I have been running the aerial on the vertical post for a couple of days...like alot of things it is try it and see... I get full satellite coverage...alll bars on the right hand side of the display and it looks very discrete :)

mine has just come today, to mount it here I have to move the RA2 further to the right of the screen, could really do with an extra 15" of wire.

Ive put the RA2 where I want it, so the laser sensor is just looking out of the top of the "clear" bit of screen, think this clears the wipers etc, and I am getting a signal... so if this is the case I dont need an antenna.

gonna test some more now.

Strange i couldnt get any signal in the clear rectangle bit of the screen or anywhere else for that matter.

Liam are you getting full satellite bars?

I am when it is right on the bottom, ie when the mounting bracket is resting on the dash and then stuck to the window, nearly always 4 out of 4 reception.

I have returned the aerial, as the wire wasnt long enough for me, and I could not have the unit in the middle of the screen like I wanted.

Only trouble is now laser detection might not be at its best....
