Police chase a 172

Not read everyones comments as I dont care tbh, I think well done for the copper battering him.

What will happen to him once it gets to court? a few months to a year ban, points and a fine or possibly prisonment?

Eitherway none of the above will stop him from actually nicking a car again, yet the thought of being battered by some one once caught might actually do some thing.

Now ok, I might be old fashioned but the day and age of when parents used to be legally allowed to smack their children or police officers was also allowed to properly tell some one off never did me any harm and all the thousands of others too.

This place we call England has become soft, soft to the point where law breakers have more rights than some one who is a saint.

Are you taking the absolute piss? The right to defend your self exists only if and when being attacked, at what point was the officer being attacked? He (the driver) was aready being dragged from the car when the officer approached to then punch him on the head, at which point was that officers safety put at risk?

Perceived threat my ball sack!

Been caught doing naughty stuff by police and I've always been polite and calm, never had points/caution/conviction. All the ones I've met have been sound and polite.

I think the majority of people on here and the general public wouldn't give two hoots about what the copper did in the video.

I dont even think the IPCC would bother much with it either.

The reason? Common sense.

Why dont you get off you high horse and write a letter of complaint or something. Moaning on here isn't going to help your cause if you feel so strongly about it.

OK lets go hypothetical.

You are said cop. The driver of the car is very well known to police. He is a known intravenous drug user who is HIV+ and has Hepatitis. On the last three occasions he was stopped by police and arrested he kicked off and bit one officer. He is also known to have spat in the faces of several other officers while being arrested. One of these officers is on your team and is currently off work taking anti HIV drugs as a result of this lads last arrest. All of this information has been passed to you over the radio during the chase. You have also had lots of experience of dealing with heavy drug users and know they don't give a damn about you, themselves or anyone else for that matter. As you drag him out of the car following his latest escapade do you

a) grab hold of him and hope he doesn't manage to spit at you or take a chunk out of you or your colleague as you take him to the ground?
b) Knowing what you do get a pre emptive strike in to distract him from doing one of the things he is very well known for that could cause you or your colleague harm?

Yes I know this is the absolute extreme but the point I make is that we just don't know.

Or lets go on what we can see in the video. The dude put his arms out of the window as a clear sign he was giving himself up. Another copper had the situation under control. The copper in question then helps drag the dude out of the car which is fine. I have no issue with the way they pulled him out. But then he threw the punches, when neither of the coppers were in any danger of being harmed.

As I said much earlier in the thread. If we just go on what we can see then it appears the cop is over the top and assaults the lad for no reason. But there are two sides to every story and some people for whatever reason refuse to accept that. This is the only point I'm trying to make.

Just to add fuel to the fire I ask the following, why do you have no issue with the way they pulled him out of the car?
You have already said he had given up and had his arm out of the window in surrender.
He couldn't drive off as he was boxed in by the police cars.
He wasn't fighting.

Why is the assault committed by dragging him out of the car a throwing him across the bonnet any less of an issue than the punches?

They had to get him under control quickly as he may have tried to run if they just stood around waiting for him to get out of the car himself. That is not assault, thats arresting him in a suitable manner considering the situation and the likeyhood he may give it one last run if they didnt get him under control quickly.
However he was then under complete control by two coppers and could not even move when on the bonnet. Then the copper started throwing punches.

Why the need to drag him out if he has clearly given up. What can you see in the video that I can't. I see nothing to suggest he is likely to try and run away and would justify the part of the arrest you are happy with over the part you are not.
 
Maybe I've watched too many police, camera, action style shows, but it seems very, very common, for the driver of a car after a chase like that one to try and leg it once he has no where else to drive. The coppers must think the same so they clearly want to get him under arrest asap.
 
Take it the ones saying the police are too tough have never been a victim of car crime. I've had cars stolen before and to be honest, I wish the thieves had had their hands cut off.

Bingo

So the cops are taking preventative action even though there is nothing in the film to suggest it is certain to happen on this occasion.
Having read the comments posted on this thread it would appear this action by the cops is acceptable. (I don't recall anyone taking issue with the dragging out of the car.)

So what if the last six times that particular cop, (Officer punch), has arrested someone after a pursuit the suspect has managed to kick/punch/bite him before he had them cuffed and under control. Would he not be using the same previous experience of what is likely to happen before taking what he believes are appropriate steps to prevent it?
 
TBH I think you're wasting your breath trying to reason with anybody on here who thinks the Police were over the top pal.

Madgit, was you Yoda in a previous life? Seems you know so much about this forum already but have little post count.... I agree with you though, some people on this forum are majorly anti police yet if your caught speeding then people will be anti you and all for the police, this equals that you will never win.
