Polishing glass?

Car  Golf GT & A4 Avant
Years ago, when cleaning the car I would occassionally polish the glass just to clean it properly. This was a long time before I found clay.

I'm now thinking of using SRP and EGP on the windscreen to help the water bead off when driving, a bit like the RainX stuff. plus I'm hoping that the thousands of dead bugs that stick to my windscreen each week will just lift off with a quick wash of the sponge.

I've spilt some on the windscreen before and it has beaded the water really well, better than AG glass cleaner. just wondering if anyone else has ever tried it

I have the Autoglym Glass Polish and dont really rate it tbh. Looks good for a couple of days (probably placebo)

i baught a pack of rainex from motorworld £6 u get some glass cleaner and a polish its best stuff iv ever baught u dont even need ur wipers on when raining :)

AG Used to say not to put SRP or EGP onto the front screen, not sure if the bottles still cary the same warning.

Front Screen Polish with AG Glass Polish and then use Rain X and wipe downs with Clearkote Quickshine.

Rest of the Glass just polish with the AG Glass polish and wax with whatever I am doing the paintwork with most of the time.

SRP and EGP does still say not to get on plastics or glass, and to remove with glass cleaner, but what harm would it do. My local stores don't stock rainex, but I'm hoping I can get the same effect from polishing.

Plus I'm hoping that it will stop all the debris sticking to it, which I don't think the rainex will do

Rain X leaves a very slick finish to the glass, slicker than a sealant or wax can.

Streaking is from the wipers is probably why they don't recommend using it on the front screen. Glass polish alone will go some way to helping the water run off.

Probably be fine - I have used Megs #16 on front screens with no ill effects, Rain X just works better and last longer.

Haven't got round to polishing the glass yet, but gave the car a quick wash and detailing spray last week inlcuding the side and rear windows. driving up the M11 sunday morning in the heavy rain and the side windows stayed clear for the whole journey. the rear window cleared lovely with every wipe, whereas normally my rear wiper isn't that great.

Gonna try it on the passenger side of the front screen this weekend and see how it goes
