PolyBush Dogbone question

I've recently had a new gearbox put in my car (well second hand from a breakers)
aswell as polybush dogbone mounts, the gear changes feel pretty solid, but i'm a bit worried about 1st gear.

It's kind of difficult to get it into 1st, it's like it's made out of granite,
there's no crunch that would be associated with a dodgy syncro,
but sometimes I have to double clutch to get it in.

I'm paranoid that 1st is a bit weak being a second hand box,
but i'm hoping that it's just that the polybush dogbone just needs a bit of wearing in.

My question is has anyone else found that 1st feels soild (as in it fights you a bit) after a poly dogbone fitted.

(I hope all that made sense)

I have just fitted a twisted polybush dogbone mount on the 182 and i can select all gears fine with no crunching or stiffness

I do have alittle play in the gear stick but i do believe thats down to the rubber donut wearing out/away.

I don't have any crunching at all, and I have no play whatsoever in the gear stick,
it's just that first is solid as hell!

Could it be your other engine mounts?

The one under the battery, lose it off. Then with a bit bar force the engine towards you a bit. Then retighten it.

Could be as I had a new upper mount fitted aswell as a new battery tray as mine was cracked.

But Danny at 519 did the work for me and he doesn't really make mistakes, could be that i'm a girl and use to a slack knackered box,
also my gearbox bracket was loose as hell, so everything's proper tight now.

I have a horrible feeling my replacement box might have a weak 1st.

I have a similar issue that 1st is a little awkward to get in however I put it down to the linkage, I'll have a closer look when I get round to fitting my polly bushes

generally if reverse and 5th go in without any fuss, then there's nothing wrong with the linkage alignment

Previously the gearbox mount was literally about to fall part, thats going to alter how it feel very significantly.

Wondering if it might be worth changing the cable just incase the clutch isn't fully engaging

Today i've found on occasion 1st goes in no problem, but most of the time I have to press the clutch twice and flat to the floor,
and even then it's a pain in the arse to get in, I can also feel the linkage clunk into place through my left foot (not the gear stick).

I have a feeling that 1st might have a couple of knackered teeth on the cog :(
Every other gear is fine although reverse and 5th are a little notchy but no-where near as bad a 1st.

With the old box and mount I was nearly in the glove box every time I wanted 1st it was so far over,
the new mounts are so solid that I barely have to move the stick over to the left for 1st.

I don't know if any of that helps you at all Danny, knowing my luck it's 1st on the replacement box thats f*cked.:S

I have a poly bush dog bone mount and first gear is fine. All though it falls out of 3rd when it fills like it.

Well i'm starting to think that 1st on my replacement box is a bit weak,
I guess that's the risk you take when you buy a used box.

I might just start pulling away in second when 1st gives me grief,
thank god i've got a new clutch, looks like it's about to start living a hard life. lol
