polysport anti roll bar bushes

any of you guys fitted them to your valver. iv just put them on mine and now the anti roll bar is rubbing on the wish bone. it is lowered but not by much any ideas????./

Recommend this to all 16v owners, replace front anti roll bar links and bushes with uprated ones from Rally Design, cheap upgrade, but you will not believe the difference it can make. Best thing I have done to my valver, whole front end tightens up, handling transformed

i changed an anti-roll bar bush on my 16v with an OE renault one and it was apig to fit because in renults infinet wisdom they had not left enough thread sticking out the bottm, needed two of us to compress the sting so i could get the thread showingto get the nut on, on most cars this is a five minute job, are the uprated ones any easier? i must admit i didnt k#notice any differnce from a snapped one to a new new,

Alex M - which are the other ones yu mention, i know th ones on he end where it bolts to the lower arm but anything further back looks a nightmare to get at,

how difficult is fitting?

Lofty

Unfortunetly the replacement ones are a pain also, What i did with outer drop links is to get a piece of flat wood or metal and vice grips to clamp bolt head tight to upperside of wishbone, so as it will not rise up. Then assemble bottom half in correct order, i.e bush, roll bar end, bush, washer. Then using a trolley jack on roll bar, push it up until thread becomes exposed, make sure, metal end washer is on then get e few turns on thread, release jack and tighten up, if struggling to expose thread, tap on a socket on the washer until you can see enough thread to catch bolt. Inner ones which clamp to wishbone are a serious pain as in haynes manual it says you need to remove whole roll bar, which supposedly means taking off downpipe. However you dont really need to take roll bar off as you can slide them up length of roll bar, but it takes a while and you will swear alot. Use grease to help it along to where it is supposed to fit on bar. have fun, let us know if my ramblings arent clear

sorry I said inner ones clamp to wishbone, which is nonsense they actually are clamped to rear of subframe/cradle. A swinging U shaped piece of metal holds them in place, They pivot at front, with a single 15mm (if i recall correctly)bolt holding them at rear. There aint much room to work (usual 16v/willy hassle as we all know) with bar, gearbox link, and exhaust all vying to be the one to piss you off the most whist working there

I contacted Powerflex, they do a complete kit 4 for the anti roll bar and outer and inner ones complete for £95 +vat

95 quid rally design are miles cheaper. well i found polysport bushes to be sh*t and would not go there again. gona stick with reno ones . the polysport ones havent got the metal inserts like standard ones have they just aint up to the job, in my opinion

Bondy

I went and brought the Powerflex ones, Im getting the gearbox sorted on Monday and they are going to remove the subframe and they are gonna put on the new bushes, I let you know IF there is any difference.

OH and the powerflex ones have the metal inserts, so i will let you know how it is when i get the car back.

Ive just fitted these to my car and they have knocked the wheel alignment out.

The bottom of the wheel is sticking out and the handling is terrible, the car is just following every little camber in the road and also pulling to the right.:(

I am going to get the wheel alignment done tomorrow, do you think this will solve the problem?

James

you cant adj camber, get it all checked first, then complain to the company if it is majorly out, but if your car is lowered, you will have extra camber anyway.

Hmmm bit of a problem. I fitted some polybushes to my Fiesta mk4 after the damn front rearmost wishbone bushes kept failing (I think Ford were over optimistic in expecting them to work in every plane without delaminating!). They are pretty good - I dont expect them to be any better than a new Ford one, but at least they wont deteriorate so quickly. When I did my old Polo, with TCAs, I jacked the roll bar up in the centre and used washing-up liquid to get them in to the U-shaped housings.

I dont know much about Clios, but I expect the roll bar isnt necessary to locate the wheel (i.e. it has a wishbone not a TCA). So, moving the ARB could very slightly change the castor/toe if it was bolted rigidly to the wishbone (like an Citroen AX GT), but if it has drop-links, then it definitely wont change anything geometry wise in the range you can move the position of the ARB.

When the inner bush was originally fitted it was put in incorrectly and the camber was out by loads, it could be possible that these still arent fitted correctly.

James

You would need to post a pic ideally.........

But im lost know, which bush/es did you replace.........too much goin on.

Its not too noticable to look at, but I can feel it and the inner rim of the wheel is catching on the suspension, it is not as bad as it was before the garage re-fitted the inner bush, but I can hear the tyre rubbing against the suspension.

I am running 17s, but the tyres are only 205 wide and they werent catching before the OE bushes were replaced with the Polysport ones.

I had the front lower wishbone bushes, drop link bushes and the inner roll bar bushes replaced.

Thanks

James

Sounds like the wishbone bushes were sagging and now theyve been replaced, its pivoted the wheel by moving the wishbone outwards, so its pushed out at the bottom and its rubbing on the spring at the top.

Either way, bit of a problem. Fitting wheel spacers causes all sorts of nasty handling traits. Try some narrower tyres. After all, 172s seem to get away with 195s.

StevieB,

I havent got wheel spacers and I cant fit any narrawer tyres with my 17s.

The rubbing is obviously a major problem, but the main worry is the fact that the car is following every single camber in the road.

For example, when i go to park my car in my space at the flats, I dont need to turn the wheel, the car follows the slope and turns itself!!!

If the bushes were sagging before, surely by replacing them the wheels should now be neutral?

Thanks

James

ergh!

i had that problem and its sooper excessive toe out, it would follow everything on the rd.

Best get it check, i think youll find its miles out all over.

Ben,

Would this explain why it would also try pulling to the right when the road is flat?

Also, why would it only show now once the bushes have been done?

My car has always followed the cambers a bit, but I always put this down to the 17s.

James

James, sorry dude, I thought about it and realised I am being an idiot. The new bushes should alleviate the problem and bring the wheels more upright, but not by much.

My Festa used to pull to the left at highish speeds after I whacked a kerb during a swerve manoeuvre with a manic in a 4x4. I had the toe set but it still pulled to the left. I thought about it and then realised I had bent the wishbone backwards so the castor was less negative (maybe even gone positive). Weird effects, weird handling....

Steve

it oculd explain it, and changing the bushes could change your settings rather than bring them into the norm.

There is no set answer, youll have to get them looked at.

I have got to the bottom of the problem.

The Poly X bushes were too soft!!

I have had OE bushes fitted and all of the problems have gone.

I will be in contact with the supplier and the manufacturer as I want compensation for the extra expense that I have incurred as a result of having to have the OE ones put one.

The Poly X bushes were fitted correctly and I had this verified by a different garage than the one that fitted them.

The garage that I used will be giving me a report on the Poly X bushes.

A few of my friends have fitted these bushes to their cars and have never had a problem, so I believe that I just got a faulty set.
