Possible 172 Cup Thermostat Problem?

Hi All

Drive a 172 Cup, I noticed last night on the way home from work (a journey of 5 miles that takes a little over 10minutes) that my fan had kicked in when I had got home. This suprised me a little but I didn't think anything of it.

Then later on I drove 3 miles to the gym, by the temperature gauge on the dash it seemed to take a little longer than normal to get upto temp, when it did get to temperature, it started creeping up quite quickly, then, it seems, when the car uses more power, mainly up hills, the temperature increases, this journey took 10mins and by the time i'd finished the temperature gauge was sitting just over 3/4 of the way up. It usually sits perfectly in the middle.

Does this sound like the thermostat has gone?

my fan hardly ever comes on, sounds like u have got some coolant problem, did you check the water level for the radiator

Thats what i'm going to check this afternoon when I get home.

the gauge should never go above 1/2 way

its possible, has the car been drinking fuel more than usual?
