Possible new 172 owner....

Hello folks.

Looking at a possible iceberg silver 172 thursday at a garage. Have since been told by the garage this morning that its an import!

My questions are -

whats different from a UK car to a import?
is insurance different for either cars?
resale values between the two?

any information will be great.

Off the top of my head, and im sure someone will correct me if im wrong:


Imports don't have the door locks
Imports don't have an alarm, just an immobiliser (i think?)


And that about it, lol. Resale value will be pretty much the same, there are quite a few imports over here, as Renault brought loads over themselves.


Insurance wont be affected.

had an import myself, pretty much covered by the above post, just really need an alarm. Had no probs getting it serviced and warranty issues sorted, but did get offered a lower resale value, so it should be priced accordingly. Don't listen to the dealer that says it makes no difference, try and sell the car back to him and I guarantee he'll offer you a lower price as its an import.

PS if it odesn't have an alarm, get one fitted or declare it as no alarm to the insurer, most would prob assume it's got the factory fit alarm.
