Possible Project?

The head gasket has gone on my uncles RXE 1.6 8V

How hard would it be to put a 16v head on? Im thinking a 16v ecu and maybe a different cambelt? New engine cover?
And how much do you think it will cost excluding labour as he owns his own garage


I havent thought about it much but its going into the garage in 2 weeks so the clocks ticking... Thank You

engine cover lol thats the last of your worries

unsure if the blocks the same for one but you'd need a complete cylinder head, both manifolds inlet and exhaust, probably downpipe/cat too.

wont be able to swap and change the ecu unless you got the engine/dash/all interior looms plus corresponding ecu

8v engines have there advantages

1.6 8v FTW tbh! I had an RXE few years back, straight through exhaust, decat, makes huge difference tbh

I might be buying it soon so that is probably whats going to happen, just thinking of mods to do while the head is off

get headwork done rather than replacing with 16v. Speak to hillpower, they used to put these engines into mk1's

Could you suggest some things to do? If you dont mind that is... Id be doing the work myself with some assitance if its needed so i dont want to ask Hillpower for info if im not taking it to them for the work.

there wont be much you can do yourself tbh, not unless you are experience at doing headwork?
