Possible to wire up aftermarket stereo units to the steering volume/channel controls?

Sorry id this sounds a bit of a stupid quesiton but I am utterly crap with all things electric and wiring and all that malarkey! Basically i'm jus twondering if it's possible to to wire up aftermarket stereo units to the steering volume/channel controls, as my current Blaupunkt one that i bought with the car doesn't work when I use them. Is it something which only works with the stock unit, or can you get any stereo hooked up to them?

You can get stalk adapters for certain brand HU, like Alpine and Pioneer.

Not sure about Blaupunkt if I'm honest.

Ahh sorry, I forgot to mention that the stereo i'll be doing it with will be a Parrot RK8200, not the Blaupunkt. http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/carstereos/parrotrk8200
