Possibly new 197 owner - few questions

  Clio Sport 197
Hi guys , ive just signed up on the forum as i may becoming a new clio sport 197 owner. Id just like to ask a few questions about them first though.

A few months back i sold my corsa vxr to go to diesel as i secured a new job, but traveling is 150 miles a week. So i purchased an ibiza cupra tdi to save myself some money but after owning the car for 3 months i absolutely hate it and cant wait to get rid. I hate diesel's, just everything about them is boring so im looking at going back to a petrol car. I also dont think that im doing enough milage to warrant getting a diesel , its 15 miles either way to work and home so this is really a pretty short journey. Last 2 weeks i put £68 of diesel in and that only got me 410 miles and that was really taking is easy, no spirited drives or anything. Ive been looking at the 197's as they've always appealed to me But there a few questions i need to ask so thought this would be the ideal place.

I know you dont buy a clio sport for fuel economy but ....
* how much does it take to fill a tank
* how many miles do you get to a full tank or whats the most you've had
* how do you find your clio to live with day to day
* is there anyone doing a similar milage as me (200 a week) and how much and often do you put petrol in

Thanks in advance for replys

Hi

IIRC a tank is 55L so on a £1.40 Optimax petrol thats ~£75 qssuming you havent drained the tank dry!
If you can squeeze 30 MPG on Soft motorway use then 55L is 12 Gallons - so on that basis 360 miles ( or 300 miles on 25 MPG)

Its easy to drive daily- just a bit rough on cold start-

Ideally buy an R27- or if budget cant go that far- go with a FF with cup pack & ideally recaros-

Is 30mpg literally the max mpg you would get out of one ?

Ive got 9k but tbh i didnt really want to spend that much on one

32/maybe 33

9k is to much-

You can get a good F1 for 7250-8500 depending on mileage & colour

try & get Xenons & climate control

* how much does it take to fill a tank - Tesco Momentum - around £70 from red light coming on.
* how many miles do you get to a full tank or whats the most you've had - around 300-350 normally
* how do you find your clio to live with day to day - love it, can have fun in it, and can just pootle about in it, plenty of space and a nice cabin to be in
* is there anyone doing a similar milage as me (200 a week) and how much and often do you put petrol in - I fill mine once every one and a half weeks and do just over 200 a week.

I see 28mpg most the time, sat on the motorway just over 30.

They run on normal unleaded but the 'preferred' choice is super!

Other choice of car is White 08/58 plate FF -( only made on 57 onwards ) - these are nice... again 8k ish with full spec like R27

If you say £5500

Service
Tyres
Wheel refurb
Seat bolster repairs
Possible paint?

then your already up towards 6500- which would have been trade price- depends what the dealers have done to it!

I only do short journeys but here's what I approximately get:

Just under £70 to fill it up

Always sits around 22.5 to 24.5 mpg

I tend to get about 240 odd miles to a tank

You'll be able to get low 30's on a steady motorway drive

As you said though, you don't buy a 197 for economy. I was surprised how much worse it was than the 182... It's worth it though! I didn't look at what age you were getting though but bear in mind that the gear ratios are longer after about October 2007. (Sorry if someone has already pointed this out, stupid phone won't let me look back through the thread)

thats pretty harsh 240miles to £70 lol. Its bit of mixed driving back and forth work. Dont usually get to go over 60mpg , im usually stuck at about 50 in 6th

I have been down to look at that one at EH in Middlesbrough just out of curiosity to see if anything was obviously wrong with it. The wheels are in poor cndition as was described on the Ebay ad which is something that the salesman said they would take care of before the vehicle left the garage. However the interior is like new and the bodywork is dent free and has no signs of fresh paint. If someone has got this motor for 5 and a half k, then it has to be the bargain of the century. Its just a shame it was a stealer i mean dealer.
