Powerwashin your engine bay

Car  Shed.
is it safe to get a powerwasher on the engine bay ? surely the water will corrode s**t and/ or get in the electrics and f**k s**t up ??

The guy that I went to for an underbody wash done my engine bay but avoided the battery area of it - came up great and no problems :)

I've heard of people getting their bays steam cleaned too

the 1.2 16v engine is bad enough faultwise anyway. I had no problems for a while. i did it once and it went into limp mode for aaaaaages. bucket of water, a cloth and some engine and machine cleaner. and to finish viynl and rubber care is more than adequate.

so ag engine and machine cleaner and a watering can .....

yeh just don't let it near the engine cover as it will go into the coils. and steer clear of the fusebox. THen once your all done i just spray AG Viynl and rubber care all over, leave a few mins then wipe over with a rag. Stops metal getting oxidized and leaves all plastics black and protected.

Hose and a low pressure flow of water should be fine aswell. I tend to use as little water as I can to remove the degreaser, no point using anymore than you need too.

I do it once a week. A soak of shampoo mixed with gunk sprayed using the foaming lance. I leave to dwell for 5 minutes, a run over with the mitt then a going over with the pressure washer.

It's a mans sport.

As I am sure I have said many times... I have pressure washed countless engine bays and never had a single problem, both on old and new cars of many different makes. Just don't get too close or focus on an area for long, just glancing shots.

If your not a total troglodyte you will be fine.

Done it a few times, just covered the electrics with plastic bags. Did once have to change the spark plugs, but that was no biggie.

No real need to use a high pressure, degreaser and a low pressure rinse works fine.

On older cars, pressure is requires...Or you'll be at it all wk!

Try that on a old 205 GTi and come back and see me son ....

Let the chemicals do there job and use the water purely to remove them.

My low pressure method dates back to those days in my past and learning the hard way.

Touches wood i've never had a problem... Doing the vee wasn't as option as i'd end up filing the car up wi water.
