BD is a High Definition DVD, Sony understandably do not wish to refer to it in such a way though as that name is associated with their rival :D

Defo getting one just in time for GTA. Not getting any of this crap early bundle malarky unless its a good game.

You lot don't half spout some b****cks, lol.

Price seems reasonable to me considering it's about the same as a 360 + HD-DVD Drive. And considering you get a bigger hard drive as standard too it could even be slightly better value!

I'm not in a rush for either at the mo tho, still rinsing the PS2 catalogue and besides that, i know if i get one i'll also have to blow a load on a HD TV...

If Blu-Ray was the only HD format or Blu-Ray was the obvious winner in the HD format war then the price of the PS3 is actually a fair price for what you get. In the latest DVD & Hi-Fi/Home Cinema mags the reviews say the PS3 plays Blu-Ray titles better than the standalone players which cost upwards of £800

The main sticking point is that Joe Public at the moment are quite happy to stick with standard DVD's so the included Blu-Ray drive is almost irrelevant as a selling point

However PS3 sales over the past 4 weeks have resulted in a big shift in Blu-Ray movie purchases so that for the first time Blu-Ray titles are now outselling HD-DVD titles

Those that payed full whack for a 360 and then bought the add-on HD-DVD drive wont have paid much less than the PS3, and the PS3 has 3 times disk capacity, backward compatible and true 1080p output, I too had previously jumped on the bandwagon of anti Sony-PS3 stuff but looking back I was misinformed by, if shifting a few PS3's before they've even hit Europe results is a massive hold on Blu-Ray being the biggest seller then the format war could definitely hit HD-DVD by summer if the PS3 sells well

ps3 doesnt have true 1080p gaming output :)

and the 360 does have true 1080p movie output so im not sure what your point is

If Sonly sell all 220,000 launch consoles in the UK then that is a huge increase in BD player owners in the UK market. It is a great strategic move for Sony to include it within their console so long as it actually sells. I'm sure it will.

I don't understand the technical stuff re. games @ 1080p but Ive seen over a dozen articles which state the PS3 fully supports games @ 1080p, GT-HD itself has been demo'd to support this, the problem is with game developers for whatever reason going with 720p, but the console itself can output games @ 1080p
