Previous owner needed HT53RFE

  172 Cup
Hi All,

Just wondering if the previous owner of our Clio is on here. Bought the car recently with a partial service history - the car seems immaculately looked after for the first 3 years or so (a few warranty repairs plus standard services, tyres etc) but don't have much information after that.

Just wondering if the previous owner (car has only had one previous owner) is about on here and could provide any more information about any work that has been done (or why the horn doesn't work :rasp:)

Cheers

My horn filled with water on my old mk2. Take the front left wheel off and take the wheel arch out. You will see the horn bolted on. take it off "empty" it and bolt back on. Note it wont work until bolted fully back on as the bolt is the earth ;) if not replace it with an item from ebay I think they just have a plug connector.

The V5 sounds like a good plan, I hadn't even considered that.

I'll check the horn for water also...I've already checked the fuse and the wires in the steering column look ok, was going to take the arch liner out the other day and have a look but the cold put me off, I'll have a check over the next few days and let you know. What would the part on ebay be? Would just looking for mk2 Clio horn be relevant enough?

I heard that HT53 cups were pre-registered by Renault. This would make sense as HT is the Portsmouth area down here. If Renault were pre-registering them as soon as they came into the docks then this would explain why there are so many HT53 Cups spanning the entire country.

In fact, I've found a whole thread on HT53 cups.

hmmm...not liking those last 2 threads, will have a proper check over the car at the weekend but might start to think about returning it to the dealer in this case. I didn't notice any damage when looking over the car so it may have been fixed properly but definitely a little uneasy about it now.

  Nothing at the mo :(
Don't think you can take it back cause someone posted a thread saying it was damaged. if its HPI clear then he wouldnt know either

Might contact the guy and see if he'll front the cost of an RAC inspection or similar. If the repair work has been done to a good standard then I have no issues and sure the car will be fine. However if it has had a bump I'm guessing this could explain the lack of horn which would then also make me concerned about airbags etc. Also sometimes get a 'clicking' noise when on full-lock.

Don't worry about the horn, they all do it. It's open to the elements by the wheel arch liner so will just need taking off, cleaning and putting back on.

All he will pay for is parts and labour if stuff goes wrong for 3-6 months...

Cool, thanks for that. The ad says that it'll need re-programming to the car, is this just a case of resetting the ECU after installing or is it more complicated than that?

Its the clicking from the steering that concerns me more now...although it sounds like its from the drivers side and people are suggesting the car was damaged on the passenger side. Any suggestions what this could be?

get the RAC to check it over yourself, if you cover that cost you may do better in getting any remedial work sorted under the warranty.

Gutted's one word for it...I'm just hoping that any repairs were done properly and then hopefully there's no problems. I've asked the people on the threads if they can give any more info about what was damaged. To my (un-trained) eye it didn't look like there was any repaired panels, all the panels line up ok and the paint seems to match so hopefully it had a good job done, I'm hoping that with the old owners name and address on the log book and a quick look on direct enquires to get a phone number and I can get a little more history about the car.

I've already prepared myself for that outcome but figure there's nothing to lose trying it.

Also thinking of getting parts and labour cover (used to get it through the AA and hoping the RAC do the same sort of thing), at least then if any work needs doing I can get the costs covered if their non-wear 'n' tear parts.

Clicking noise will be CV joint

IIRC, the damage was passenger door, maybe rear quarter too.

where did you buy it from, how much, and where are you located??

We bought the car from a dealer in Surrey, it was £3180, seemed an ok price as it only has 50k miles and one owner.

Door and possibly rear quarter is less worrying to me than if it was the front end.

How much is a CV joint and is it a complicated job (Renault Specialist) or simple (standard garage monkey)? Coulld this also make the steering pull slightly? (when going over bumps the car snatches to the side, tyres and tracking both seem ok)
