Problem with Keyfob Lock/Unlock

Hi Guys

Looking for some general help and advice if possible?

I have a 2002 172. The keyfob is pretty poop at unlocking the doors!! It works some of the time, but hardly ever. I am constantly having to use the actual key to unlock the car which is frustrating in the rain lol. The little red light on the key seems to light up when pressing the button, but doors do not unlock.

I have changed the battery in the key, cleaned the connections in the key, but has not fixed the issue.

I have no spare to try but have no idea if the keyfob or the sensor in the car is at fault? I dont even know where to start looking to solve this problem?

The immobiliser is also playing up where the red light on the dash flashes when I try to start the car. Im thinking these issues must be related?

Any help is massively appreciated.

A new key is required by the sounds of things

This is a very very common fault with clio keys!

Have you tried re-syncing the key to the car?

Re-sync would be the first thing as mentioned above.

The immob and unlock functions work on two seperate systems so I doubt they're linked. Changing the decoder ring (round the ign barrel) could solve the immobiliser issues and is relatively cheap to replace.

My key is the same not much can do about the locking and unlocking I dont think but with the immob turn ignition off an press button on the key then turn it straight to cranking. Works everytime with mine
