hi all

Ive just taken the head off my GT turbo engine. is this a good or bad, whats can you tell from the pictures? i have no idea what to look for so just after some advise. thanks

there seems to be some yellow crystally type of substance on one of the pistons and around its valves.

Why did you take the head off in the first place? how many miles has the engine done? Has it been apart for any reason before? Any mods, like increased boost or altered fueling or ignition timing? What condition is the hg in?

You can never see anything like enough detail in a pictures of this quality, too much flash, not focused and not close enough to see anything. Plus it's good to be able to touch, feel and smell too.
Secondly, you need to clean it all up thoroughly to inspect for signs of wear and damage. There is alot of carbon deposit on the head and pistons which looks quite normal.

It depends on why you decided to take the head off, and what you now wish to do. If there was a reason for taking the head off, i would be looking to rectify the cause.

I would investigate what the substance is on no.2 piston, that doesn't look normal.

If i were to give any judgement on this engine from these photos alone, i would suspect and blown head gasket between 2 and 3. You can see dirty deposits on the picture of the head. Then i would go for a full de-coke.
