Protection for a car what does high miles.... (Fk1000p vs Shield Vs EXO)

  Not a 320d
Sup.

My mate does oodles of miles in his Golf as a salesperson and needs something good and long lasting. Remember this car will be subject to massive chemical abrasion from motorway miles (Think hes covered like 30K in a year).

Weve been thinking:

He has a pot of Fk1000p (You thieving b*****d) and is considering buying Shield. Would FK last as long as Shield?

I told him he might as well get EXO over shield that way Ive also got a product to protect some more cars with (The Z4 I did, 2 BMW company cars)........ although I think with it being almost December application could go very wrong (We do have an electric patio heater and a garage would that suffice?). Plus I might be able to charge the company for EXO as itll do more than one car.

Will EXO last on the rear end of a hatch back or estate where it gets proper filthy?

Either way the car will be given a quick once over with Gtechniq P1 then wiped down with IPA. So will be a good base for Fk1000p.

He was also thinking of buying Z8 and applying it every wash over FK1000p just to keep a sacrificial layer on there as Im doing on my Clio over winter.

What think?

C4 is old C1, roight?

That.

Shield vs Fk1000p I've not test. In fact, I've never used Shield. Ask Russ.

I of though fk is more durable than shield

Exo isn't quite living up to its claims, it's all gone a bit quiet on DW.

if it was me, I would go for opticoat 2.0

Everywhere I look on DW regarding this subject it seems to get best feedback on durability

A few of the pros are claiming its still present after 3 years

Hmm. Ill snoop about with EXO. If it is good for a years protection then Its certainly an attractive prospect to look into.

Perhaps I should Go with C1 and 1.5 again then. Problem is its a ballache to apply. Ive asked about EXO over there hopefully ill get a response.

Will look into opticoat as well.

C4 is defo the same stuff then, JD? Might PM russ about Shield.

jesus f**king christ.

Why didnt I think of that.

Because you've spent too much time on marketingforpolishesweekly/detailing world to use your common sense anymore ;)

Ive been on that forum before, it reminded me of cliotrophy.gimp so i left, quickly. I might go on there & post pics of the golf actually, im using an epic paint protector/sealant on it at the moment 'dirt 0ff tut road 3.17c'. Really easy to apply and stops scratches, stone chips & pretty much anything damaging the paintwork.

When you wash your car yearly how do you wash it?

I do it 'properly' once a year, so:

Pressure washer > Bucket of AG shampoo + wash mit > pressure wash > iron-x > pressure wash > pat dry with soft bathroom towel > get it dirty 10 minutes later. If im bored ill do the following after drying it: clay > AG polish & wax > apply tyre gel

Id rather just drive it tbh.

i just did, sorry Toby. kind of feeling like im bullying you now.

on a serious note, how often are you going to get your hands on it and after what kind of miles each time?

Its my mate who will be washing it. Hes about as incompetent as me when it comes to detailing so he will use two buckets and whatever shampoo I forget to hide from him (Born to be gay shampoo).

Itll be once every 2 weeks most likely and Im sure there can be about 1000 miles during that period on busy weeks.

Really do need something durable!

Toby FK will probably outlast Shield and imo Exo also. It doesn't last aslong as some claim.

Ceramic sealants on there own are superb at that. Russ is really rating opti-coat 2.0 just now. Quite a simple sealant but monster durability.

Why not just throw some FK or 476's on it? If he's spending shield money get a ceramic sealant ffs.

Oh and whenI say sealant I don't mean C1+.

Exactly what I said to him. Weve already got FK so I think we might try that first then. Im hearing mixed opinions about EXO! Will look at Opti coat but I know nothing about it.

AG HD is also a shout but since you have FK. I think HD is one of the most underrated waxes/hybrids on the market.

id suggest C2, seems to hold out better than 1.5. is very good at self cleaning when driving in rain or wet conditions. simply to layer or dilute as QD. i washed with permanons omega and hectra mineral and organic remover and it was still present. needed a mechanical abrasion to really remove it.

Keeping em for a rainy day, no pun intended lol

I could be tempted by a swap though

Got some bouncers vanila ice on the way to me from the bouncer himself free of charge, can't wait

bouncers seem to be getting a good rep for nice application. what are they like for real world durability before water behaviour dies?

If they are nice enough to use I'd be happy with 3 months durability, which I'm sure their waxes are capable of

Sherbet fizz smells immense, and apparently vanilla ice is a step further.

Going OT now lol
