Got my hands on a PlayStation Portal the other week and had a go at work. It was a bit laggy using my phone as a hotspot but the 5g at work is s**t anyway so I connected to works WiFi and it's been fine. I've not tried any multiplayer games because people suck but I sank 3 hours into subnautica the other night without even looking up 😂. The only minor gripe is there's no Bluetooth for my headphones but I've got a wire and it would only kill the battery faster so it's not a big issue really. I'm impressed with it so far.

I've recently picked up a portal. Wasn't sure if my home internet was good enough for it to run well so I went pre owned and picked one up for £100. Home internet is just about good enough, although I struggle to remote play due to constant connection loss. Cloud streaming is fine. I think this may be due to not having my PS5 hardwired to the router.

So I'm either going to go down the powerline adaptor route, or get a mesh set up.

I'm quite impressed with it, currently going a bit retro with Sackboy and GTA5 with a bit of Spiderman thrown in. You can get over the Bluetooth thing by buying a Bluetooth transmitter which will allow you to use wireless headphones/ earbuds. Although you will get some lag on sound- it's not bad enough to bother me, but I can see some audiophiles hating it.

Yeah my broadband isn't the best at home so my ps5 is hardwired. Sometimes the portal takes a few hits to connect but then it's fine. I'll probably upgrade my ps+ to do cloud streaming at some point.
 
I've just finished Uncharted. I played the first 2 years ago (ps3 was it?) but have had them on my to do list for ages. Over the last couple of weeks I've played through all 5 of them in a time of 56 hours. They really aren't that good, climb some s**t then shoot some grunts, and repeat. I'd say the last two were the best but still the same formula and omg it's so irritating that you can only jog along at a snails pace 😣. Box ticked and onto something a lot more modern.
 
Uncharted was visually stunning and had a great story line, but some of the controls and the driving in the last one kinda spoiled it for me.

Absolute shite this. I don't really care for myself, buy digital most of the time anyway... but it's much nicer to be able to buy a physical item for my kids presents, and also selling/lending etc.
 
Yeah it doesn’t directly affect me and my PS5 is the digital version anyway, but I definitely don’t agree with the principle being made mandatory for everyone else.

If the games were cheaper to reflect this change, then that evens the playing ground out a bit. But they’re not..

Unless they plan on making them cheaper in the future that is. I was surprised at GTA 6’s price tbf!
 
I’ve got about 5 or 6 physical games , the rest either of PS+ or digital. They say times are changing and people are getting more digital games. I don’t know the full ins and outs of this on why they went down this road. I’m not happy, I wonder if this was discussed over the internet before the deadline date. I was surprised at the price of GTA6 on PS store. But overall the PS store over charges to like Amazon. It’s not right if that’s the case you don’t actually own the digital copy. New laws should be in place that if digital games is the new norm different places will be cheaper than they are now and to be able to loan out or to sell. I did a quick look on PS store Ghost of Yetei is £10 dearer than on Amazon for example.
 
On the licensing part, full removal from your account is going to be very unlikely imo, although technically still possible. Big games now are all money making machines and micro transactions are clearly a model that they want to push forward. They’re not gonna want to be losing that revenue stream.

If a game gets ‘delisted’ for whatever reason and you have it installed in your library, you can still re download the game. It just won’t be on the store for future purchases. I think this is the key part imo.

If the account is banned or inactive (3+ years) then everything goes forever. Or if the producer pulls the rights for whatever reason, then it’s gone gone. I really can’t see that happening with 99% of games, certainly none from a big franchise anyway. Seems to be more a concern for other types of media/material like films etc.
 
I've still got a fair few Blue Ray's movies for the PS. What will the future of those be like. If someone had a lot of physical games, is there a way of getting those transferred to digital form so you don't have to buy twice, is there such a thing?

They have already removed over 500 movies from people's libraries due to licencing agreements, who's to say it won't happen with games.

You only buy a film once though.

With games, the RRP is just the first payment made by a bulk of consumers. Battle passes / season passes, in game currencies, bundles to buy, ranks / levels to skip, weapons and skins to buy etc. That’s where they really make the big bucks.

Obviously it’s not great in principle, I just don’t think it will cause that big a deal for the majority of people. Can you imagine this happened with GTA / CSGO / COD etc?

There’s no way this would happen.
 
I am loving the Pro currently.
Finished my spiderman game that I last played in 2018. Managed to upload my save file from PS4 and download the remastered PS5 version to play.
Started the Miles Morales game last night too, hopefully blast through that then can start Spiderman 2.

I know I am mega late to the party, but the graphics compared to the PS4 (and I thought they were good) are insane.

I hate to say it, but I can see the Switch 2 gathering dust for a while now 🤣

I bought expedition 33 and Crimson Desert on disc at launch and both for less than the ps store download. I ain't paying top dollar for any game and if I can't punt it on if its s**t or if I dont like it then I'll be waiting until it's on sale to pay to borrow it from Sony.
 
If you're really into completion gaming, talking single player, then physical really can't be beaten. Buy a new release, beat it in a week or so and sell on for pretty much what you paid.

I did this with Spiderman 2.

I planned to do it with Mafia and Ghosts of Yushima but I've still not completed them after buying them last winter 🤣
 
They have to have something, I really feel they will come up wth an idea like the xbox idea. The second hand market is amazing. I think I bought Luca one or two brand new switch games out of maybe 15 games, he doesn't care!

I just bought a PS5 and a Portal for his birthday as he's had his switch two years and time to move on and blow his mind with some proper gaming, very excited to give him that feeling and game together more. We're not big on tech in the house, limited time so he will get a kick out of the PS5!

Going for a lot of coop games and then pick up some others, can't decide between 2017/2018/2021 Pes yet for my master league gaming! Again you can't buy these games online anymore so they will dissapear!

Any tips etc for a new plasystation/playstation portal owner? Anyone use inline power adaptors for their ethernet? My wi-fi is 500gig and 3 feet from the router but it's across the room and suppose the portal will be better with less traffic from the console?

It'll be fine with those speeds I'd imagine? A guy uses his on his break at work just hotspotting his phone and it works fine.
 
Thanks dude, I assumed so, any isues i'll go for the adaptors. It's a decent size older house with solid brick walls so upstairs takes a slight hit upstairs but can combat that easy enough, still runs over 100.

I looked into that before as the walls as mentioned. We don't have TVs upstairs or tech really so there was no need for now, the conversion of the spare room will change that.
