putting gearbox back together

got my 172 gearbox split diff fitted etc but cant get the case back together is there a certain gear to put the selector in ??

I can't advise exact detail I'm afraid........but I did get mine back together and it was a complete cockwash to do.

I did mine by trial and error tbh

I had the same problem on Monday when putting mine together, you need to align 1st,2nd and third and forth selectors like this first

Then put the fifth gear selector in the top casing like this with it engaged before lowering down

You will need someone to help you tho, will need someone to push the ball bearing detents in on the top with you hold the fifth gear selector in place.
Then make a hook and lifted the reverse gear once the top is on, don't try engage any gear until you have lifted reverse and place the last detent in

Once you've done that try engage the gears,
Took a few attempts but worked for me, it might not be the correct way but like I said defo worked for me hope this helps
