questions about a brake servo

  Clio RSi
Basically the brakes went on my 94 rsi, and a garage I use said the rear calipers were seized and wanted to charge me £500ish

So I took it back changed the rear calipers even though the ones that were on there werent seized.. Bled the brakes took it for an MOT as this had run out.

They said the braking efficency was too low on the back, so I changed the bias valve as the one on there was rusted and wouldn't move. Bled the brakes.

Taken it back there now and there saying the brake servo unit is leaking and apparently it's a big job?

Starting to lose faith in it as it's been off the road for repairs longer than its been on!! But to be fair the braking doesn't feel right

They want to charge me £700ish for the mot a few odd jobs and this main problem.

Is it a big job and are they expensive second hand/recon?

Cheers Steve

Why didn't they tell you about everything that needed doing the first time?, surely when they tested the brakes they should have been able to find the leaking servo then.
Might be barking up the wrong tree but they sound like their trying to find things wrong so they can wack you with a £700 bill.

Have you tried taking it somewhere else ? If the master cylinder actually leaking ?

How does the servo actually work? is it mechanical or electrical? Had no experience with these at all. If I can't do this myself its goin o the scrap yard!

Are they normally expensive if I can find a second hand one?

Is a mechanical device that provides assistance for the brakes. Brand new it'd probably be quite expensive but a second hand one from the scrappy shouldn't be too much.

I'd still take it somewhere else first as I still think thier trying to pull a fast one.

Slow cars work off the inlet manifold, fast cars work off a pump on the end of the cam.

There fairly simply mate the hardest thing is they're in the most awkward places tucked behind loads of stuff that needs stripping. Try another garage
