quick advice needed

  clio mk1
hey all, I have a car and the paints faided from the sun, its a normal red colour but its starting to look like pink! or light red from the sun, I wonderd if there is any wax or anything anyone recomends for resoering it a bit back to how it should be a nice shiney red!

anyone recomend any decent stuff? cheers

Wax definitely won't help! You will need a polish, preferabl via machine to make your life easier.

Otherwise I think Carlack do a good hand kit, which I think someone posted a week or so ago...

Depends how much you are willing to spend really...?

Yeah...but it leaves a horrible fine layer of scratches all over your car and eats into the clearcoat. There is no need to use Tcut, there are much better performing alternatives on the market.

SRP won't be abrasive enough I would imagine.

Why use Tcut when there are better choices for the same money though?! It makes no sense. Look at the links in the sticky on the main page, there will be loads of choices on those. I use Menzerna polishes personally and work brilliantly in all the variants I have used so far. For an oxidised red I would use their Intensive Polish, even by hand it should work wonders, although I remember Rich posting about a paint cleaner he had used by hand IIRC on a red car?

SRP's chemical cleaners will cut through oxidisation by hand, Klasse All in One or Carlack 68 work better though.

More speedy results will be achieved with a decent abrasive polish by machine with something like Megs 83, Poorboys SSR 2.5 or Menzeran Intensive Polish.

Avoid the T Cut it is w**k and will leave the paint with shed loads of minor swirl marks.

If the paint is THAT badly oxidised then i doubt the owner will care too much about swirl marks tbh.

Saying that i don't advocate the use of tcut.

SRP from halfrauds will work fine. done my little bro's polo with it, came up like new when he sold it

^ I tried some SRP on an old red Escort and required the strength of ages just to get a little bit off...only recommended for those with pneumatic arms!

There are much easier ways.

Badly oxidised paint is really tough to work on, there is loads of friction and just generally a bad experience. Once your rid though its very satisfying. Not really sure why it seems to happen most often on red cars, although sure someone with more knowledge of paints might have an idea.

That Escort still gives me nightmares... ;)
