Quick one - exhaust gasket

The metal gasket that sits between the cat and the middle section of the exhaust on a 172 seems pretty useless from what I can see. It's paper thin and doesn't look like it could help seal much, does anybody recommend using some kind of exhaust/high-temp gasket sealant?

Fitted a new exhaust and want to make sure I don't have it leaking from the cat-back joint again.

It wouldn't be a circle with two bolt holes either side would it? As the cowboys at Renault gave me a pair of them (didn't pay for them mind) for my 182... Which obviously it didn't fit.

Could stick them in the post FOC if you like... If they're for yours I'd imagine they're aluminium crush gaskets, and nigh useless once you've had it out once.
