R14 CUP - Clio Cup Project

  R14 CUP
Thought i would start my own project thread up.

I have no overall position or know where i want the car to be, but its just gonna progress over time. :)

I bought it pretty much as it stands now, bar a few bits and pieces.

I had the front of the car fully resprayed at the beginning of the year, as there was a few little marks in the paint, that a Machine polisher wasn't getting out. I have got plans to get my rear bumper done in the summer too.

I will add accordingly when progress is made :)

Regards,
Jamie

Ordered some Top mounts this morning, Febi Bilstein for £30 inc vat :)

Also got a new exhaust hanger and rear hub/bearing covers to be fitted next weekend, whilst its being service prior to the ring at the end of the month :)

  R14 CUP
I've had an offer also, to swap my wheels for a set of MINT turini's - unsure what to do, very very tempted tbh.

Bilstein top mounts came incorrect, so have some Renault ones coming late this week.

So got a new wiper cover on order, gonna try and fabricate a mount for my camera into it, for germany.

Struggling for places to mount it too, without looking OTT and obvious for the 'ring

Them along with the Pagid RS blues & Brembo HC's, i should have more than enough stopping power for the ring, going to be fitted on saturday. Got the hoses in yellow, to go with the bits yellow detailing on the car.

Hopefully will have a nice big update for saturday :)

Had the car serviced today, Plugs and Oil Filter. Car seems much more smoother with the new plugs in, seems to pull through lower revs much quicker.

Looked as if it was still on the original plugs or they havent been changed recently, they were very corroded - when are plugs supposed to be changed?

Number three plug was very oily, the rocker gasket has got a leak around the port, so will need replacing.

Had a new exhaust bracket fitted too, has stopped the rattling from inside the baffles of the backbox, which had started to grate on me.

All in all, a good day - we are ready to go to the 'ring... nearly!

Yeah, well they have been done now and its all the better for being done :)

Going to give it a bit of a clean now :)

Not really, want it to go like it is. Only things i would really consider selling are the seats + recaro subframes, but i'd need some decent seats in exchange too.

Let me know if you do want to do anything with the seats. Great condition standards in my FF 182 I could exchange + cash your way possibly.

:dapprove:

I would say hope you get it back but I understand why you dont. Hope you find a suitable replacement and dont get stung too much by insurance for the claim.

Today i have had new front shocker top mounts and all the various fixings that go along with them. Also had my Brembo HC discs fitted, along with ATE Blue Brake Fluid. Brakes seem much much better.

On a sour note though, i found that the OSF outer Pagid RS4-2 Pad has a crack straight down the middle of it, i have spoken to the suppler of them, and has said get them out and they will be replaced under warranty all being well. I hope so, anyway.

Mallory tomorrow too :)

I was gonna start another progress thread, but pointless when I had on open from years ago.

Spec wise, it's a bit different.

Engine wise, it's running GT Cams, RS Tuning Map, Forge Development hoses & Ktec stleath exhaust.

Bar that, it's about the same.

It does need a few bits and pieces, it will be a set of top mounts and ball joints soon. I'm going to go for Pure Motorsport top mounts and brace kit. I'll be fitting genuine ball joints too, as I have had nothing but trouble with non genuine ball joints.

I am getting a set of anthracite 2118's at the weekend too, it'll probably need lowering a tad. I think I will need to run some spacers all round and I'll get some 1 degree camber shims for the rear too. The 2118's are unfortunately on T1R's at the moment, but AD08's are on the cards. It's a dry weather car, so may aswell run hero spec tyres.

It also needs some paintwork, but that's a job for the winter time!

I ha organised to swap wheels with Azza @ CSS, but for one reason or another it didn't happen. I will get some eventually though.

In the mean time, I've got a few things sorted out :)

Firstly I have fitted some new front door speakers, as mine didn't work. Well when I say didn't work, they wasn't there. Bought some direct fitment Pioneer speakers, they fit a treat. It's a massive plus having music from four corners of the vehicle, rather than just the rear!!

Also finally painted the calipers, I had painted them yellow years ago, when I first had it. They haven't been done since. I decided I didn't want them yellow anymore and went for a more OEM Silver, and it's a massive improvement.

The front calipers I stripped all the old paint off and repainted, the rears I painted over the old paint. The finish is perfectly fine on the rears though.

Also, I have just bought this. I plan on either buying a snow foam lance through the group buy on DW, or getting a bargain @ Waxstock.

Next on the list is going to be new headlights, I ain't decided whether to stick with black cup lights or to go to Xenon's & spacers for the Rears, probably 15mm eibach spacers.

Thanks for looking :)

Oh, I also cleaned the back of the wheels, hence why they have streaks on the fronts! Will be giving it a proper wash tomorrow and will sort the front edge out then!

I'll get this going again I think.

Not an awful lot has changed on the car since the last post really. I've fitted PMS top mounts & a white line, that's about it.

Last weekend I did a track day at blyton, great day and car performed well beyond my wildest dreams.

I overheated and warped my discs and knackered a ball joint (albeit a 3 week old ball joint).

So I went on the hunt and tried to find a better solution to my ball joint issues that I've been having. The suspension is set up perfectly, so no issues there.

I spoke to the guys at Geoff Steel Racing about getting me some rose jointed arms made up, it's possible to do, but will take far too much money to get it right, I'd probably been better to go down the PMS route in the long run.

Anyway, they made some calls and eventually R Sport was mentioned, so I gave them a try.

Spoke to one of the guys in the motorsport department, who was very very clued up, we had a good chat about different options available and we eventually got onto the Tarmac spec rally cars, and they used to run an uprated ball joint, which very rarely failed and I'd imagine would take far more abuse than i would throw at the car.

So I've ordered a pair of them, coming from France and will be on my door step in approx 10 days.

Also, picked up some Brembo MAX brake discs from GSF today, so they'll hopefully cure my awful brake judder i have been suffering from.

I'm gonna reuse my DS2500's for the time being, eventually I will make the switch back to Pagid Blue or DS300's.

So that's where we are.

It's gonna be a long old winter ;)
