r27 v S3

mate of mine has a new S3 which is a lovely car btw.

Anyway had a good burn earlier on with him and was suprised how good the 197 was

The S3 is obviously a quicker car, but the 197 did well. There was nothing in the 2 until he hit third and it got about 3 car lengths on me till 100.

Had him in the bends though!!

Either your mate has zero driving ability or your the stig. The new s3 should wipe the floor with any Renaultsport varient. The gap he should and would have pulled would have been great, and should not be to shabby in the bends!!!

i dont comment on cars without testing. Im not like your average. Test drove the 197 when first come out, ok the engine was tight but even still no comparison to my cup in acceleration terms ( although very impressed with handling grip and brakes!) My friend had a play with the new S3 in his modded CTR which by the way leaves my cup standing. The s3 sat on his ar$e until silly speeds, so im just doing the math mid 5's to 60 i believe and 4 wheel drive ??

The S3 is a very quick car, but on the road, through the twisties slower cars can quite easily keep up with the quicker one. Autocar for instance said the 197 was a better handling car than the S3. The R27 is even better.

Anyway, my mate says there is quite a bit of turbo lag, and you ahve to catch it in the right revs when you change gear otherwise it bogs down. Short changing on his car is quicker than revving it to the red.

Plus the 197 holds on to second for longer than the S3.

And yes i am a better driver which he openely admits to. Plus its a £32k car and that needs a little bit of respect!

I may add the 197 i drove was standard and not the R27. Im not putting the R27 down in any way, its just i know the Audi to be a very capable car, and like you say its expected to be with that price tag!
 
Well I think there's f**k all difference 0-60 between my R27 and my old 182. And there's f**k all difference in acceleration between a 172 and a 182.

Pretty much nothin in it. Mid 6 secs for all.....well the Cups faster but hey, who's splitting hairs? Hehe.

S3 is a mid 5 sec car i believe.

s3 would leave a r26 let alone a 197 or r27. a tuned 180 a3 quattro has left my old 172 and my 197, and you just cant ever pull enough back on the bends

I've chased the odd A3.....i've even hung onto the coat tails of an S3 on a stretch of dual.
Sure, he really didn't have much to worry about but i sure as hell kept him looking in his mirrors and i had a right laugh trying!

I cannot speak for the newer models but I have a 02 Reg S3 and a 00 Reg Clio 172. I love the clio and I only really use it for trackdays. BUT the S3 would hand the clio its ass in every aspect, straight line speed, cornering, braking is much of a muchness but overall the S3 is much quicker.

In a straight line, a new s3 would tear a 197 a new one! Isn't it ~15s to 100? On a twisty back road it will be closer, but no chance in a straight line.

when i read the test the s3 did 0-100 in 13.8ish which is awesome as i dont think there is another hatch that can get there in less than 15

yes thats why the clio cup series has all the best drivers in it,i mean hamilton just cant handle the sheer pace of the renault. lol

a new s3 would eat a standard rs any day of the week with a decent driver in it.
and it doesnt cost a lot to get it tuned also remap etc

You reckon? In the dry theres very little in it IME, on the straight and bends. In the wet is a different story though! S3 much more planted.

Of course you jest in your reply, thinking that the average reader will no doubt wet themselves with that witty reply......but the cup is probably closer to a hot hatch benchmark than the 197 will ever be ( again my opinion) T1T!
 
EVO test 0-60 5.6 , 0-100 13.8 for the S3 8p ( new shape ) it is a heavy car , and your not gonna get no turbo push in the back/touqe steer, so it's not gonna feel rapid like a Clio, but look down at the speedo your in triple figures! stunning handeling ( not as hardcore as R26/27 ) build is second to none! your looking at 29k for a decent spec on the car! the car is a different class tho!

Yes i have drove one and in fact WATCH THIS SPACE!

It will cost more than twice (hell it's near enough 3 times as much if you look at the cost you can source a new Cup for) as much to get a new S3 against a new 197/197 Cup/R27...............

If I had £29k to spend, it would not be on an Audi S3.

You buy a car that you can afford/want , yes you could get two 197 , and you'll get 8k each for them in 3 years when you come to sell them, i dare say more than the Audi will be worth! it will be close mind!

I'm not slaggin off Renaultsport here,, there crackin cars for the money!

People have different wants and needs for there car, i'm 36 i want a good alrounder of a car, fast enough, top build , hold it's value better than most, 4wd,tuninng potential that you can put down on the road, room for me wife/son/dog! Lol

You pay your money you make your choice!
