Awesome car (and driving going by the pics on 3!)

Did laugh at this! Reminded me I went to fix an oil leak on a 964 911 and was fussing over the jacking (as you would with someone’s nice porsche) in his yard at work. Bloke went “wait there” next thing he flies in with a forklift, straight under and lifts the thing up in the air! I did get him to put it back down and do it my way but he didn’t even look or anything, just forks straight under and up she went

Thanks very much, I do try. The cars been built and raced on a very tight budget so I appreciate the comments.

I've lifted the car a few times with the forklift but I'm not sure I would lift any era of 911.

SLS R3 results - clockwise 23rd August

Sunday. What a day. Everyone’s preferred way around Knockhill. After my off on Saturday I had a bit of nerves heading out again in the warm up and practice, still playing with adjuster knobs to try and kill out some understeer ( still haven’t got to the bottom of this ). Steadily running in the 61’s now the suspension has made a massive difference to how the car feels.

At lunch time I get a call from @Djw John . “Ready your wets”. Was still sunny at Knockhill but raining on the road up. Readied the wets we did.

As the rain fell for qualifying I was excited to get going, I enjoy driving in the wet and the car goes well in these tricky conditions. Setting good times around 3/4 place I enter duffus hot, set up for turn 3 and brake, front end locks and sends me hurtling towards the crash mats and tyres with seemingly none of my driver inputs doing anything I brace for impact.

Climbing out the car I’m thinking how will I repair this, I’ll need another shell. It’s only three weeks till round 4. It’s only the second round and my budgets been blown already.

With the red flag being waved and the marshalls doing a great job of getting me calm and pulled out. One of them piping up “Its not bad, If it starts you’ll be able to drive it”. It didn’t start. But it did bump.

Back into the pits. @Djw John checks over the car. Looks to be ok. Me wandering about looking lost.
Get your helmet on. You’re going back out comes the shout from John. There’s 5mins left of qualifying. Helmet back on and away I go. Setting my fastest lap on the very last lap stuck me in 4th.

I later find out that all my other times had been disqualified, if I hadn’t gone back out I’d have been last in Quali.

The final. Still wet. Still full of crash adrenaline. I wait to go out for the hot lap. I try weave it about to get some heat into the tyres and brakes and just go for it. As I enter the pits the team put up a single digit. Was in 1st with the last 3 cars to run. As I park up to get weighed the guys had conf I’d managed to place it in 3rd. A great result for us from being in the tyres a few hours earlier. Delighted to be racing with the guys in class F some proper characters. Bring on round 4. 🏆

Round 4 - 13/September/2020

Haven’t had a bit of a write up on here for a while. A couple of quick posts and pictures to keep the thread up to date.

Round 4 round up. Not the best results for us this weekend but we had a good time trying. Had made a few changes to try and help with the understeer it’s developed since the coilovers were fitted, but these didn’t rule it out completely.

Warm up didn’t really happen due to a red flagged session. No one really managed any flying laps. 5th wasn’t bad.

Desperate to put in some good laps in Practice we managed 4th with a 1:01.437.

Qualifying was good with consistent 1:01.5’s but only good enough for 6th on the day.

Final: tried hard out the gate but an intermittent ABS issue saw a lock up at Mcintyres and the hair pin. A 1:02.867 landed us in 7th.

Disappointed but will continue to push hard and hopefully develop the car.

September 2020

In a plan to see if I could get rid of some understeer @David Stuart had kindly agreed to try add a little more toe to try rule it out. He strung it up nicely and we booked a track day to test the new set up.

26th/September/2020

Track day at KH with @Djw John. Was a lovely day, warm and dry really getting the best out of the a set of 888R. Hilarious time with John, even though he’s using his only car he’s still giving it absolute death and gets a black flag for throwing all the floppy cones at me. Brilliant day.

This years goals were to:1. Not be last in SLS 2. Crack a 60 sec lap.

The lap timer shows a 1:00.64 and later a 1:00:24. I’d like to have seen these times on the transponder but I’ll certainly take that. There’s more time in the car, just the driver letting it down. 😅

Understeer mostly dialled out now, while not 100% it’s a whole lot better than before.

Hi, your local friendly idiot just checking in.

It was a superb track day, one of the best we've ever had. Just a shame I was in a diesel golf in a frock 😂

Good write up! Out of interest, with the BC racing set up, are you using the spacers on the rear springs? Or is that just the spring sat as low as it can be?

Good write up Dave! Bring on 2021

I'm fairly looking forward to it. Although the car is currently in bits for further 'improvements'

Cheers fella. They are fitted with the smallest rear spring spacers but I'm going to bring it up a bit both front and rear to see if we can get it handling better.

The shock bodies are adjustable on these so no need to mess with moving the springs.

October 2020

Had the car up for MOT 16/10 - Passed with some advisories. The tester noticed that the rear axel bushes had some play. These are original and the only bush having not been replaced by powerflex yet. Thanks for taking it up for me John.

17/10

Fitted 2x front ABS sensors to attempt to repair an on going intermittent ABS light and loss of ABS.

Ordered a new HANS harness from Demon tweeks as well. Much nicer to use when wearing the HANS than the older 3” Willians I had previously.

All done in preparation for the final round of SLS on the 18/10.

Never think about getting rid of the ABS?

I found it funny and gave me a lack of confidence under hard braking as it seemed to give inconsistent action.

I do think about it fairly regularly, but still haven't made my mind up about getting rid of it. I must be used to having it. Puts me right off my stride when it's not working.

Round 5 - 18/October/2020

The final round of the championship. With a few folk moving up a class and a few guests I had a good opportunity to finish off my first season in a fairly good position.

Weather was mixed between properly greasy and wet. Using a mix of PS3’s and a set of A052’s we managed a half decent balance and did fairly well.

For the final I made a mistake into turn 4 which would have ruined my day but my run ended up being red flagged due to another car having an off track excursion. Lucky Escape for me in the end. Pulled it out the bag and ended the day in 4th.

With the points added up over the year we managed to finish 4th in class and 13th in the overall championship, which giving its my first year I’m over the moon.

I know there’s more to give from the car and the limiting factor is now the driver. This year I’d like to continue building on 2020 and hopefully bring back a few more trophies.

Got to thank John again, was there every meeting and on point with tyres, mechanical and words of wisdom. Another thanks goes out to Cousin Mark, genuinely the most exited man child I know. Didn’t miss a meeting and always going out out of his way to be as positive as possible in every situation.

November 2020
13/Nov/2020

One last hurrah for 2020

A final track day for November, weather was great. Nice and dry for the best part (for November).

Wet in the early parts and drying up to a nice finish. Someone drops oil over most of the track making the conditions tricky but a brilliant day out. Myself and Imrie having a great battle all day in his 197. The 182 is quicker in a straight line but the 197 feels quicker through the corners.

Cars still going well. Really enjoyed 2020, plenty of track time even with the pandemic. Looking forward to 2021.
