I found it works really well and you can drive without wipers at 40mph+. Helps you see better at night when its raining too. So I cant knock its performance, it really was good although it had to be applied once every couple of weeks to keep it at its best. Also made it easier to scrape windows in the winter when it frosts.

You have a point about smearing though. I think you really have to make sure the screen is cleaned properly with the Rain-x cleaner before applying. Also drying it off with a very clean cloth. Just before I sold my car after a year of rain-x use I noticed I could see smears when driving at certain angles into sunlight. Couldnt see it any other time and no it wasnt the usual film that builds up on the inside of the screen as I had just cleaned it. Its not easy getting rain-x off the screen if you decide it is causing a problem, apparently you need special cleaners?

Am therefore debating whether to put it on my Clio. Really not sure at the moment. Suspect that I wont bother.

yep does the same with mine but i can get them off with abit of work, but i find it better to use a good window cleaner 1st then use that on the front windscreen, still get the odd mark tho but as i said it does come off

Ive found rain x to be great, especially on the motorway at 70+, never noticed any smearing though...

Its FAB stuff, but you do have to apply it properly!! requires loads off buffing, kitchen roll does the job best me thinks.

there is another product on the market that is much easier to apply, think its called "rain wizard" the bottle is shaped like a vibrator, so your girlfriend can get some use out of it to!!!

Hi,

Regarding Rain Wizard it is better then rain x!

I have used both for years. Rain Wizard is easy to apply and remove.

Halfords near me dosnt stock it anymore and I cant find on the net. I might be right in thinking they stopped making rain wizard.

Ive never had a problem with Rain X - been using it for the past 3-4 years on 3 different cars with no smearing. As said above, it really helps when driving 50+ in the rain - no wipers required (although the Clios auto wipers think differently )

I apply it to a dry windscreen using a clean yellow duster (Tesco value 10 for 60p!), let it dry, reapply, then spray with a tiny amount of water and polish off - no problems doing it this way.

AGMitch i put mine on the same way you do and i dont get any streaks either however i have noticed you need to put it on every 2 to 3 weeks

had to rely on this when my front wipers broke... found it to only really work when going at quicker speeds, not as great as it had been made out to be though

Ive also been using Rain X for some time now and it is a fantastic product IMHO. It does take a little time to apply but if you follow the instructions to the letter then you should not see any smearing issues. I think as mentioned above that making sure the screen is perfectly clean before application is important - for this I used Autoglym fast glass as it was what happened to be handy.

I use the Mer Rain away stuff to great effect

the trick to applying it and having it work properly is two things, cream cleaner and a microfiber cloth!

Use cream windscrean cleaner to deep clean the pores in the glass, let it dry to a powder and buff off with a blue microfiber cloth from halfords. Then apply the rain off to the freshly cleaned glass, let it set and then buff it off with the microfiber cloth, then reapply it and leave the second cote on for 24 hours or over night if you dont have the time and them buff off, again with the microfiber cloth.

This prosses means that the stuff bonds and seals the screen, the first coat bonds into the pores of the clean glass and the second coat seals. the microfiber cloth means that it will remove the smears with no effort needed.

if you do this then sh1t like bugs and bird gunk wipe off with ease and no smearing with a little blast of the washers.

I know coz i used to sell the stuff for MER!!!!

I have to agree i use rain x and it works really well i havent noticed smearing how do you all apply it?
the instructions are on the back of the bottle ??, you need to follow them to the word or you will have smearing

Expensive ! Not really worth the cash but does work well for a short time. Clean screen and wipers works just as well I reckon.........

I was lucky to be able to try some but wouldnt buy it.
